According to Clauses 5 and 6, Article 10 of the University Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, students are classified by academic performance based on the semester average score, annual average score, or cumulative average score as follows:

(1) Classification by 4-point scale:

- Excellent: From 3.6 to 4.0

- Good: From 3.2 to just under 3.6

- Fair: From 2.5 to just under 3.2

- Average: From 2.0 to just under 2.5

- Weak: From 1.0 to just under 2.0

(2) Classification by 10-point scale:

- Excellent: From 9.0 to 10.0

- Good: From 8.0 to just under 9.0

- Fair: From 7.0 to just under 8.0

- Average: From 5.0 to just under 7.0

- Weak: From 4.0 to just under 5.0

* For the classification of student years based on accumulated credits from the beginning of the course (referred to as N) and the average number of credits per year according to the standard study plan (referred to as M). To be specific:

- First-year level: N < M;

- Second-year level: M ≤ N < 2M;

- Third-year level: 2M ≤ N < 3M;

- Fourth-year level: 3M ≤ N < 4M;

- Fifth-year level: 4M ≤ N < 5M.

Are the results of student in vietnam assessed at the end of the semester or the end of the academic year?

Based on Clause 1, Article 10 of the University Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, the academic performance results of university students are assessed after each semester or each academic year.

The assessment is based on the results of the modules within the requirements of the training program that students have studied and scored according to the following criteria:

- The total number of credits for the modules that the student has not passed in a semester, in an academic year, or the debts from the beginning of the course;

- The total number of credits for the modules that the student has passed from the beginning of the course (accumulated credits), including exempted and recognized credits;

- The average score of the modules that the student has studied in a semester (semester average score), in an academic year (annual average score), or from the beginning of the course (cumulative average score), calculated according to the official scores of the modules and the credit weight of those modules.

According to Article 11 of the University Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT:

Handling academic results by credits

1. At the end of each main semester, students are warned based on certain conditions as follows:

a) The total number of credits not passed in the semester exceeds 50% of the registered course load in the semester, or the total number of credit debts from the beginning of the course exceeds 24;

b) The semester average score is below 0.8 for the first semester of the course, below 1.0 for subsequent semesters;

c) The cumulative average score is below 1.2 for first-year students, below 1.4 for second-year students, below 1.6 for third-year students, and below 1.8 for senior students.

2. Students are expelled in the following cases:

a) The number of warnings or the level of warnings exceeds the limit set by the training institution;

b) The study duration exceeds the limit specified in Clause 5, Article 2 of this Regulation.

  1. The training institution's regulations specify in detail:

a) The choice to apply certain conditions for academic warnings, the limit on the number or level of warnings but not exceeding 2 consecutive warnings;

b) The process, procedures for academic warnings, expulsion; notifying the form of application to students;

c) The retention of accumulated academic results in case the student is expelled.

In the event of poor academic performance at the end of each main semester, students might receive an academic warning. To be specific:

- The semester average score is below 0.8 for the first semester of the course, below 1.0 for subsequent semesters;

- The cumulative average score is below 1.2 for first-year students, below 1.4 for second-year students, below 1.6 for third-year students, and below 1.8 for senior students.

Furthermore, students should also note that they will be expelled if the number of academic warnings or the level of warnings exceeds the limit set by the training institution.
