Based on Section V of the English Language General Education Program (from grade 3 to grade 12) issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the English language knowledge that grade 4 students learn is as follows:
(1) Phonetics
- Monophthongs, consonants, consonant clusters, word stress
(2) Vocabulary
Words related to the topics and themes of the grade 4
(3) Grammar
- Present simple tense (reinforced and expanded)
- Present continuous tense (reinforced and expanded)
- Simple past tense
- Simple sentences
- Wh- questions
- Yes/No questions
- Modal verbs: can, would
- Demonstrative pronouns (reinforced and expanded)
- Conjunctions: and, but, or, because
- Prepositions: with, near, behind, next to, opposite, by,…
What are the general objectives of the English language education program in Vietnam?
Based on Section III of the English Language General Education Program (from grade 3 to grade 12) issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the general objectives of the English language education program are as follows:
- The English Language General Education Program helps students acquire a new communication tool, form, and develop the ability to communicate in English through listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- By the end of the general education program, students can communicate at level 3 of the 6-level Vietnamese Foreign Language Proficiency Framework, creating a foundation for students to use English in their studies and to develop lifelong learning habits to become global citizens in the era of integration.
- The English Language General Education Program helps students gain an overview of the countries, people, and cultures of some English-speaking countries and other countries around the world; cultivate positive attitudes and affections towards the countries, people, cultures, and languages of those countries.
- The English Language General Education Program also contributes to forming and developing essential qualities and competencies for students as future workers: awareness and responsibility in labor, orientate, and choose careers that fit with their capacity, interest, adaptability in the context of the new industrial revolution.
