Based on Subsection 3, Section 6 of the Literature subject curriculum of the general education program issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the organization of teaching paragraph and essay writing generally includes the following main activities: stating the tasks that students need to perform; requiring students to work individually, in pairs, or in groups; organizing the presentation of working results, discussing the assigned tasks, and independently drawing out lesson contents; giving comments, evaluations, etc.; after writing, students should have the opportunity to speak and present what they have written.

Additionally, teaching writing to students also includes the following orientations:

Teachers focus on guiding students through the steps of creating a text, practicing writing according to the steps and characteristics of each type of text.

Through practice, teachers guide students to analyze the texts in the reading comprehension section and supplementary texts to understand the characteristics of each type of text and the process of creating a text; using questions to help students determine the purpose and content of writing; introducing sources of materials, guiding how to find ideas and outline; guiding students to write text; self-editing and exchanging based on the evaluation criteria of the writing.

At the primary school level, teaching writing has two requirements: teaching writing techniques and teaching paragraph and text writing.

Teaching writing techniques (handwriting, spelling) mainly uses the practice method according to models. Teaching paragraph writing, essay writing in a flexible manner can use methods such as model training, questioning, group discussion, creative writing, etc.

At the lower and upper secondary school levels, teachers require students to undertake more complex tasks such as collecting information for writing from multiple sources (printed materials, online materials, interviews, data collection from reality); discussing, analyzing the evaluation criteria of writing; knowing self-editing, group exchanging to complete the writing and drawing experiences after each writing assignment, etc.

At these two educational levels, in addition to continuing the sample analysis method of the types of texts, teachers pay attention to guiding active writing techniques to help students proficiently create each type of text while developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity as shown through writing.

Besides conventional texts, students are also trained to create electronic texts and multimodal texts.

What are the required teaching materials for the Literature subject according to the new curriculum in Vietnam?

At Section 8 of the Literature subject curriculum of the general education program issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the minimum teaching equipment for the Literature subject includes a reference bookcase containing sufficient main types of texts, namely literary texts, argumentative texts, and informational texts; with all forms of storybooks, comic books.

Each main type of text must include sufficient subtypes: literary texts comprising stories, poems, plays, memoirs; argumentative texts comprising literary arguments, social arguments; informational texts comprising explanatory texts and practical texts.

Some pictures such as portraits of significant writers included in the curriculum; illustrations for the content, art of some major works such as Nam Quoc Son Ha, Hich Tuong Si, Binh Ngo Dai Cao, Truyen Kieu, Van Te Nghia Si Can Giuoc, Tuyen Ngon Doc Lap, etc.

Furthermore, schools with conditions should have Internet connectivity, computers, screens, and projectors; equip with additional Vietnamese teaching software; CDs, video clips with content introducing scenic spots, historical landmarks of the country, the hometowns of writers (for teaching and learning explanatory texts);

Some animated films, feature films adapted from literary works, or CDs, video clips recording certain plays from literary scripts; CDs recording songs adapted from selected poems for teaching; some extended reading materials, literary exchanges, thematic talks by writers, literary researchers, critics; textbooks, literary books, and literary education materials in electronic format.

Will 12th-grade students in Vietnam study Literature according to the new curriculum in the academic year 2024-2025?

According to the provisions in Article 2 of Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the curriculum will be implemented as follows:

The general education curriculum is implemented according to the following schedule:

1. From the academic year 2020-2021 for grade 1.

2. From the academic year 2021-2022 for grades 2 and 6.

3. From the academic year 2022-2023 for grades 3, 7, and 10.

4. From the academic year 2023-2024 for grades 4, 8, and 11.

5. From the academic year 2024-2025 for grades 5, 9, and 12.

Thus, in the academic year 2024-2025, 12th-grade students will study the new general education curriculum, including the new Literature curriculum.
