The primary Music subject curriculum helps students initially familiarize themselves with general music knowledge, the diversity of the music world, and traditional musical values;

Contribute to forming and developing in students essential qualities (patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, responsibility) and common capacities (self-control and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity).
What are the characteristics of the Grade 1 Music subject in Vietnam?
Based on Section I of the Appendix to the General Education Program for the Music subject, issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the characteristics of the Grade 1 Music subject are as follows:
- Music is an art form that uses sound to express human emotions, attitudes, awareness, and thoughts.
Music is an essential part of cultures, deeply connected and influential to social life.
Music enriches the spiritual values of humanity, serves as a medium for people to explore the world, and contributes to enhancing the quality of life.
- In schools, music education creates opportunities for students to experience and develop musical abilities - an expression of aesthetic capacity with the following components: music performance, music appreciation and understanding, music application and creativity; contributing to the discovery and nurturing of musically gifted students.
At the same time, through song content, musical activities, and educators' methods, music education helps develop in students qualities of patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, and responsibility, along with capacities of self-control and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity to become well-rounded citizens both in personality and in physical and mental harmony.
- In the general education program, the content of the Music subject is divided into two stages.
- Basic education stage: Music is a compulsory subject from grade 1 to grade 9, including basic knowledge and skills in singing, musical instruments, music listening, music reading, music theory, and music appreciation.
The music education program helps students experience, explore, and express themselves through musical activities to develop aesthetic capacity, recognize the diversity of the music world, and the relationship between music and culture, history, and other art forms; simultaneously forming a consciousness to protect and promote traditional musical values.
- Career-oriented education stage: Music is an elective subject based on students' aspirations and career orientation.
The subject content includes expanded and advanced knowledge and skills in singing, musical instruments, music listening, music reading, music theory, and music appreciation. Students with interests, talents, or career orientations related to music may choose additional study modules.
The music education content at this stage helps students continue to develop practical skills, expand their understanding of music in relation to cultural, historical, and social factors, apply knowledge to life, meet personal interests, and approach music-related careers.
