What are guidelines on retelling the legend Con Rồng cháu Tiên in Vietnamese?

The legend of "Con Rồng cháu Tiên" is one of the lessons that grade 2 and grade 4 students will learn according to Vietnamese Language program.

Students can refer to the brief retelling of the legend of "Con Rồng cháu Tiên" as follows:

What are requirements for grade 4 Vietnamese Language subject in the 2018 Curriculum in Vietnam?

The 2018 curriculum is stipulated under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT.

In Article 2 of Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the roadmap for the implementation of the 2018 general education program (referred to as the 2018 curriculum) is prescribed as follows:

- From the 2020-2021 school year for grade 1.

- From the 2021-2022 school year for grades 2 and 6.

- From the 2022-2023 school year for grades 3, 7, and 10.

- From the 2023-2024 school year for grades 4, 8, and 11.

- From the 2024-2025 school year for grades 5, 9, and 12.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the three remaining grades, grades 5, 9, and 12, will officially implement the 2018 program instead of the 2006 general education program (2006 program) under Decision 16/2006/QD-BGDDT.

Thus, from the 2024-2025 school year, all grades in general education will implement the 2018 program.

Therefore, the requirements for achieving the grade 4 Vietnamese subject in the 2018 program are based on Section V of the general education curriculum for the Vietnamese language subject issued alongside Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:

*Key Quality and General Competence Requirements

The Vietnamese language subject contributes to forming and developing in students the key qualities and general competencies appropriate to the subject and grade level as specified in the overall program.

Additionally, based on Section IV of the general education curriculum for the Vietnamese language subject issued alongside Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the specific competencies required when completing the grade 4 Vietnamese program include:

[1] Necessary Language Competence:

- Read correctly, fluently, and expressively; understand the main content of the text, primarily the explicit content; begin to understand implicit content such as themes or lessons learned from the text.

- In elementary grades, reading requirements include technical reading skills and reading comprehension skills. For early-grade students (grades 1 and 2), emphasis is on reading accurately at a suitable pace and understanding simple content.

For students in grades 3, 4, and 5, emphasis is more on understanding specific content, themes, and lessons learned from the text.

- From grades 1 to 3, write correctly in spelling, vocabulary, and grammar; write some sentences and short paragraphs. In grades 4 and 5, start writing complete short essays, mainly narrative, descriptive essays, and simple introductions.

- Write narratives about stories read, events witnessed or participated in, or imagined stories; describe familiar objects and phenomena; introduce objects and activities from students' lives.

- Write paragraphs expressing students' feelings or thoughts when reading a story or poem, witnessing an event that evoked many emotions; express opinions on simple matters in study and life; write various types of texts such as autobiographies, messages, invitations, schedules, applications, etc.; start writing according to a process; a complete essay should have three parts (introduction, body, conclusion).

- Present ideas and feelings clearly; start using appropriate gestures and expressions when speaking; retell a story clearly; share and exchange feelings, attitudes, and thoughts on discussed issues; explain an object or simple process.

- Understand the main content when listening; recognize the speaker's emotions; respond properly to what was heard.

[2] Required Literary Competence:

- Differentiate between prose and poetry (paragraphs, essays & verse, rhymes); recognize text content and the writer's attitudes and feelings; initially understand the effects of some literary elements (language, characters, plot, rhythm, similes, personifications). Imagine, relate, and express literary thoughts in writing and speaking.

- For grades 1 and 2, students must recognize who or what the text is about; identify characters in stories and rhymes in poems; differentiate between prose and poetry.

- For grades 3, 4, and 5, students must know how to read literary texts expressively; summarize the main content of stories or poems; assess characters, events, and the writer's attitudes and feelings; recognize time and place, types of rhymes, poetic rhythm, unique words, images, and rhetorical devices like personification and similes.

- Understand the meaning or lessons from the texts. Write narratives and descriptive paragraphs reflecting feelings, imagination.

>>>In summary, the 2018 program's requirements for achieving in the grade 4 Vietnamese subject consist of two main parts: key quality and general competence, and specific competencies.

What are regulations on the selection of texts for the grade 4 Vietnamese Language subject?

According to Section IX of the Appendix to the general education curriculum for the Vietnamese language subject issued alongside Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, suggested text selections in grade 5 Vietnamese lessons will be as follows:

- Based on the criteria for selecting texts (stated in section V) and the requirements for selecting texts (stated in section VIII), the program creates a list of suggested texts for selection in each grade.

This list is not all texts of each grade but just examples of genres, text types, topics, and their suitability for students' cognition and psychology; ensuring reading, writing, speaking, listening goals for each grade.

To provide convenience and flexibility in selecting texts, the suggested texts are grouped by grade clusters: grades 1, 2, and 3; grades 4 and 5; grades 6 and 7; grades 8 and 9; grades 10, 11, and 12 (Texts are ordered alphabetically).

Textbook authors can use this list to select and find additional equivalent texts in terms of genre and difficulty, provided they meet the criteria (mentioned in section V) and text selection requirements (mentioned in section VIII).

- Suggested texts (materials) in this list are organized by text type (stories, poems, drama, essays, arguments, information).

The number of texts in each type varies according to the program’s requirements.

The list includes new texts and texts currently used in existing textbooks (redistributed to meet grade-level goals), ensuring balance between inheritance and innovation. For informational texts, the list does not specify individual texts but only topic and text types, allowing textbook authors the freedom to choose.

Each author in this list appears only once across all disciplines, except for some compulsory authors and works mentioned in the program.

To guide textbook authors in choosing appropriate texts for each grade cluster, this list also indicates the distribution for compulsory works.
