- Understand the message, ideas, emotions, and attitudes of the author in the text; recognize literary scripts, novels and Nôm poetry, structured and free verse, tragedies, and comedies; content and form of literary works, literary imagery;
- Recognize and analyze the effects of some formal features and artistic devices specific to each literary genre (the combination of the narrator's voice and characters' voices, perspective, conflict, poetic rules, structure, vocabulary, the flow of lyrical emotions; rhetorical devices like anaphora, pun, irony, litotes).
- Recognize some general characteristics of Vietnamese literary history; understand the impact of literature on personal life.
