Based on Clause 1, Article 3 of Circular 27/2016/TT-BGDDT, the regulations on groups and retention periods of education documents include:
Group 1. General materials on education and training
Group 2. Materials on early childhood education
Group 3. Materials on general education
Group 4. Materials on continuing education
Group 5. Materials on training at pedagogical intermediate schools, pedagogical colleges; training at universities, master, doctoral levels; scientific research
Group 6. Materials on national defense and security education
Group 7. Materials on ethnic education
Group 8. Materials on educational quality accreditation
Group 9. Materials on diplomas and certificates
Group 10. Materials on tuition fees, scholarships, support policies for learners
Group 11. Materials on student affairs
Group 12. Materials on international cooperation in education and training
Group 13. Materials on teachers' work and management staff of educational institutions
Group 14. Materials on educational facilities, school equipment, children's toys

Additionally, the retention period of dossiers and education documents is the necessary time for keeping dossiers and materials, calculated from the year the task ends. The retention period of dossiers and materials includes two levels:
- Permanent retention: Dossiers and materials in this category are kept until they self-destruct and cannot be restored;- Temporary retention: Dossiers and materials in this category are kept for a specific number of years or a defined period.
How are education documents handled after the retention period expires in Vietnam?
Based on Article 4 of Circular 27/2016/TT-BGDDT, the regulations on using the Retention Schedule for education documents are as follows:
Using the Retention Schedule for education documents
Documents specified in the Retention Schedule include the original, main, or legal copy in case the original or main version is not available.
The retention period determination for each specific dossier or material cannot be lower than the level stipulated in the Retention Schedule.
When selecting documents for submission to Historical Archives, organizations and units must consider the completeness of the document groups, paying attention to historical periods and moments to potentially raise the retention period higher than the stipulated level.
For dossiers and materials that have expired the retention period, the Document Evaluation Council of the organization or unit will review, assess, and dispose of them according to legal regulations or extend the retention period.
For dossiers and materials not specified in the Retention Schedule, the organization or unit can apply the retention period of the corresponding group of documents in the Schedule for determination.
Thus, for dossiers and education documents that have expired the retention period, the Document Evaluation Council of the organization or unit will review and assess them for disposal according to legal regulations or extend the retention period.
