- Choice of simple sentence - compound sentence, types of compound sentences, conjunctions to link compound sentence clauses
- Elliptical sentences and special sentences: characteristics and functions
- Rhetorical devices of punning, sound repetition, and rhyming: characteristics and effects
- The difference between direct and indirect speech; the use of punctuation in direct and indirect speech
- Text types and literary genres
+ Narrative text: storytelling, simulating a read story; storytelling transforming content from a comic
+ Expressive text: eight-syllable poetry; paragraph recording feelings about an eight-syllable poem
+ Argumentative text: the role of arguments, reasoning, and evidence in expressing the content of an argumentative text; essays presenting issues and solutions; essays analyzing a literary work
+ Informative text: presenting ideas and information in the text; the effectiveness of non-verbal means in informative texts; explanatory text about a social phenomenon; explanatory text about a scenic spot or historical site; advertisements, flyers
- Some notes on referencing, citing materials to avoid plagiarism
- Language development: new words and new meanings
- Basic understanding of Vietnamese writing: Nom script and Quoc Ngu script

What are literary materials of the Literature Curriculum for grade 9 students in Vietnam?
Based on subsection 2, Section 5 of the General Education Program for Literature, issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the literary materials for grade 9 includes:
(1) Literary Texts
- Mythical tales, detective stories
- Verse forms like song thất lục bát, Nom narrative poetry, eight-syllable poetry
- Tragedies
(2) Argumentative Texts
- Social arguments
- Literary arguments
(3) Informative Texts
- Text introducing a scenic spot or a historical site
- Interview articles
What is the age of grade 9 students in Vietnam?
Based on Article 33 of the Charter for lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and multi-level schools issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the age regulations for lower secondary school students are as follows:
Age of lower secondary school students
1. The age of students entering grade 6 is 11 years old. The age of students entering grade 10 is 15 years old. For students who have advanced a grade in the previous level or entering a level at an older age than the prescribed age, the age for entering grade 6 and grade 10 is decreased or increased based on the age at the time of graduation from the previous level.
- Ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students with particularly difficult circumstances, and students returning from overseas can enter a level at an age older than the regulated age by up to 3 years.
- Students may not be held back more than 3 times in one educational level.
- Students with good physical and intellectual development can start school earlier or advance grades within the educational level. This is considered case by case, following these steps:
a) Parents or guardians submit a request to the school.
b) The principal establishes an Assessment and Advisory Council with at least the following members: a school leader representative and the school's Parent Committee representative; the current class teacher of the student.
c) Based on the council's assessment, the principal makes a decision.
- Students within the regulated age range returning from overseas, and children of foreigners working in Vietnam, can attend lower secondary school either at their residence or at a different location if the school can accommodate. Each case is considered following these steps:
a) Parents or guardians submit a request to the school.
b) The principal assesses the student's level and places them in an appropriate class.
Based on the aforementioned regulations, the updated age-by-grade table is as follows:
