Definition: A common noun is a word used to name a general type of thing, event, or concept. It does not denote a specific individual but represents a whole group.

Characteristics:

- Do not capitalize at the beginning of a sentence.

- Can be accompanied by numbers or quantifiers.

- Can denote people, objects, phenomena, or concepts.

Examples:

- People: student, doctor, farmer

"What is a proper noun?"

Definition: A proper noun is a word used to denote a specific name of a person, object, place, or specific event.

Characteristics:

- Always capitalize the first letter.

- Represent a unique entity.

Examples:

- People’s names: Nguyen Trai, Ho Chi Minh, Marie Curie

What knowledge does the grade 4 Vietnamese language curriculum include?

According to Subsection 2, Section 5 of the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the Vietnamese language curriculum for grade 4 students includes the following knowledge:

- Rules for writing the proper names of organizations and agencies

- Vocabulary according to topics

- The utility of dictionaries, how to find words and meanings in a dictionary

- Meaning of some easy-to-understand idioms

- Meaning of common Sino-Vietnamese elements

- The effect of word choice in meaning expression

- Nouns, verbs, adjectives: characteristics and functions

- Proper nouns and common nouns: characteristics and functions

- Sentences and main components: characteristics and functions

- Adverbial components: characteristics and functions (add information)

- Use of dash (to mark listed points); hyphen (to connect words in a compound name); quotation marks (to denote the name of a work or document); parentheses (to denote explanatory parts)

- Personification rhetorical device: characteristics and functions

- Topic sentence of a paragraph: characteristics and functions

- Three-part structure (introduction, body, conclusion) of a text: characteristics and functions of each part

- Types and genres of texts:

+ Narrative essays recounting a witnessed event; stories with illustrations

+ Descriptive essays: describe animals, plants

+ Paragraphs reflecting feelings and emotions about a character

+ Paragraph expressing opinions about a story, character or event, and giving reasons for said opinions

What is the age of grade 4 students in Vietnam?

According to Article 33 of the Primary School Charter issued with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the age of primary school students is regulated as follows:

Age of primary school students

  1. The age of students entering the grade 1 is 06 years old, calculated by year. Disabled children, children with physical or intellectual developmental delays, children in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, ethnic minority children, orphans with no support, children returning from abroad, children of foreigners studying and working in Vietnam may enter the first grade at an older age than regulated but no more than 03 years. Cases where children enter the first grade exceeding 03 years will be decided by the Director of the Department of Education and Training.
  1. Elementary students study at an older age than the prescribed age in cases such as repeating a grade, studying in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, ethnic minority students, disabled students, students with physical or intellectual developmental delays, orphans with no support, children returning from abroad, and other cases as prescribed by law.

Thus, grade 1 students are 06 years old. If students advance annually, grade 4 students would be 09 years old.

Note: Except for cases of repeating a grade or entering school earlier/later than the regulated age.
