Based on Article 72 of Education Law 2019:
Standard training qualifications for educators
- The standard training qualifications for educators are as follows:
a) A college degree in pedagogy or higher for preschool teachers;
b) A bachelor's degree in teacher training or higher for primary, middle, and high school teachers. In the case of subjects with insufficient bachelor's degree holders in teacher training, there must be a bachelor's degree in a relevant major and a certificate of pedagogical training;
c) A master's degree for university-level lecturers; a doctoral degree for lecturers and advisors of master's theses, and doctoral dissertations;
d) The standard training qualifications for educators teaching in vocational education institutions are according to the provisions of the Vocational Education Law.
- The Government of Vietnam stipulates the implementation roadmap for raising the standard training qualifications for preschool, primary, and lower secondary school teachers specified in points a and b, Clause 1 of this Article. The Minister of Education and Training and the Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs shall, within their tasks and powers, stipulate the use of educators in cases of non-compliance with Clause 1 of this Article.
Thus, a grade 6 English teacher must have at least a bachelor's degree in teacher training. If there are insufficient teachers with a bachelor's degree in teacher training, one must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant major and a certificate of pedagogical training.
