What are admission requirements for a Master's Degree in Vietnam?
Based on the regulations at Article 6 of Circular 17/2021/TT-BGDDT, the admission for a Master's Degree in Vietnam must meet the following requirements:
- The admission requirements of the training program must clearly define the minimum requirements regarding qualifications, capabilities, and relevant experience for each level, discipline, and training orientation that learners must meet to study successfully and complete the training program effectively.
- Admission requirements of undergraduate and specialized training programs at level 7: Learners must graduate from high school or equivalent qualifications.
- Admission requirements for a master's training program: Learners must have graduated from a university (or equivalent level or higher) in a relevant field; possess a level 3 foreign language proficiency as per the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam or equivalent. For research-oriented master's programs, learners must graduate from university with a fairly good classification or have scientific publications related to the field of study.
- Admission requirements for a doctoral program: Learners must have completed a master's degree or a specialized program at level 7 in a relevant field or graduated with distinction in a relevant undergraduate program (or equivalent level or higher); have a level 4 foreign language proficiency according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam (or equivalent level or higher); and possess research capabilities and experience.
The admission requirements of the training program must clearly define the minimum requirements regarding qualifications, capabilities, and relevant experience for each level, discipline, and training orientation that learners must meet to study successfully and complete the training program effectively.
Thus, the admission requirements for a master's training program are as follows:

What are outcome requirements after completing a Master's Degree in Vietnam?
According to the provisions of Article 5 of Circular 17/2021/TT-BGDDT, the outcome requirements of a higher education training program must satisfy the following general conditions:
- Must be clear and practical, reflecting the learning outcomes that graduates need to achieve regarding general understanding and core competencies at the training level, and specific requirements of the training field and discipline.
- Must be measurable and assessable according to cognitive levels as a basis for designing, implementing, and improving content and teaching methods; checking, evaluating learning outcomes, and awarding diplomas for learners.
- Must be consistent with the training program's objectives, showing a clear contribution while reflecting the highly representative requirements of employers and other stakeholders.
- Must clearly specify the specific level and fulfill the exit standards concerning knowledge, skills, autonomy, and responsibility, as per regulations for the corresponding level according to the Vietnamese national qualification framework.
- Must ensure articulation with admission requirements of higher training levels (if any) and create opportunities for horizontal articulation between programs of the same training level, especially between programs of the same group of disciplines or fields.
- Must be specified thoroughly and clearly in the exit standards of the modules and components in the training program and implemented systematically through links between modules and components.
- Must ensure feasibility, match the program's volume, and enable most learners who have met the admission requirements to complete the training program within the standard duration.
Is it possible to pursue master's degree in a part-time format in Vietnam?
According to Article 3 of the Regulations on recruitment and master's level training issued with Circular 23/2021/TT-BGDDT, the forms and duration of training are stipulated as follows:
Forms and duration of training
1. The formal training format applies to research-oriented programs and application-oriented programs. The part-time study format applies to application-oriented programs. The duration for organizing teaching activities for each training format is implemented according to the University's training regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
- For each training format, the training institution provides a standard full-course study plan for each training program to orient learners. The training duration is stipulated as follows:
a) The time according to the standard full-course study plan must match the time regulated in the National Education System Framework, and ensure that most learners complete the training program;
b) The time according to the standard full-course study plan for part-time training format is at least 20% longer than the formal training format of the same training program;
c) The maximum time for learners to complete the course is stipulated in the regulations of the training institution but does not exceed 2 times the time according to the standard full-course study plan for each training format.
Thus, learners can wholly pursue master's level training in a part-time format.
