Pursuant to Section 5 Appendix of the General Education Curriculum for English subject issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the regulations on language knowledge in the primary English curriculum are as follows:
| Phonetics | The teaching content of phonetics at the primary level is expressed in two areas: spoken language and written language. - Spoken language: vowels, consonants, some consonant blends; word stress, sentence stress, and basic intonation. - Written language: the corresponding relationship between sounds and letters for spelling, reading, and writing correctly the words and phrases learned. |
| Vocabulary | Vocabulary teaching at the primary level consists of common, simple, concrete words in Level 1 English to serve communication situations within the system of topics and themes of the Syllabus. The vocabulary number stipulated at the primary level is about 600 - 700 words. |
| Grammar | Grammar teaching content at the primary level includes structures that support the development of communication skills in Level 1 such as declarative sentences, questions, imperative sentences, affirmative sentences, negative sentences, simple sentences, present simple tense, present continuous tense, simple past tense, simple future tense, modal verbs, singular nouns, plural nouns, personal pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, interrogative pronouns, possessive adjectives, possessive pronouns, adverbs, cardinal numbers, ordinal numbers, common prepositions, common conjunctions, articles… |
What is the overall goal of the English language education program?
Based on Section III of the General Education Curriculum for English subject (from grade 3 to grade 12) promulgated under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the overall goals of the English language education program are as follows:
- The General Education Curriculum for English subject helps students acquire a new communication tool, developing the capacity for communication in English through listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- By the end of the general education curriculum, students are expected to have communication skills equivalent to Level 3 of the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam, laying the foundation for students to use English in learning, fostering lifelong learning habits to become global citizens in the integration period.
- The program provides learners with a general understanding of the country, people, and culture of some English-speaking and other international countries; fostering positive attitudes and sentiments towards those countries' cultures and languages.
- The English language education program also contributes to forming and developing necessary qualities and capacities for students as future workers: a sense of labor responsibility, orientation and suitable career choices matching their capabilities, interests, and adaptability in the context of a new industrial revolution.
