In Vietnam, what are the grades at which Mathematics is a compulsory subject?

Under the General Education Program for Mathematics issued under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, Mathematics is a compulsory subject for the following grades:

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SUBJECT

....

The content of Mathematics tends to be logical, abstract, and general. Therefore, to understand and learn Mathematics, the school Mathematics curriculum needs to ensure a balance between "learning" knowledge and "applying" this knowledge to solve specific problems.

During the process of learning and applying mathematics, students always have the opportunity to use technology, modern teaching equipment, especially electronic calculators and handheld computers, to support the process of demonstrating, exploring, and solving mathematical problems.

In the general education program, Mathematics is a compulsory subject from grade 1 to grade 12. The mathematical education content is divided into two phases:

- Basic Education Phase: Mathematics helps students systematically understand the most essential mathematical concepts, principles, and rules required by everyone, forming a foundation for further learning at advanced levels or for practical use in everyday life.

...

Thus, according to the above regulations, Mathematics is a compulsory subject from grade 1 to grade 12.

What are the regulations on the integration of the Mathematics curriculum in Vietnam?

Under the General Education Program for Mathematics issued under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated to ensure integration in the Mathematics curriculum as follows:

- The Mathematics curriculum implements intra-subject integration around three knowledge circuits: Number, Algebra and Some Elements of Calculus; Geometry and Measurement; Statistics and Probability.

- Implement inter-subject integration through relevant content, topics, or mathematical knowledge exploited and used in other subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, IT, Technology, History, Arts, etc.; implement intra-subject and inter-subject integration through practical and experiential activities in mathematical education.

- At the same time, the Mathematics curriculum ensures differentiation requirements. For all education levels, Mathematics ensures the spirit of teaching-oriented towards individualizing learners based on ensuring that the majority of students (across all regions of the country) meet the program's requirements.

- The Mathematics curriculum will focus on special entities (gifted students, students with disabilities, students in difficult circumstances, etc.). At the upper secondary level, Mathematics includes a system of advanced study topics and learning content that help students enhance their knowledge, and practical skills, and apply them to solving real-world problems.
