Vietnam: Which modules can be combined when selecting regular retraining modules by teachers?

What are the regular retraining modules for teachers in Vietnam?  What is the retraining duration of each module?

According to Section 3 of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions issued in conjunction with Circular 17/2019/TT-BGDDT, the regular retraining modules for teachers within the professional competency development program according to job position requirements (referred to as Retraining Program 03) include 15 modules.

The 15 retraining modules are as follows:

Module GVPT 01: Enhancing the ethics of teachers in the current context

Module GVPT 02: Building the style of teachers in general education institutions in the current context

Module GVPT 03: Developing self-professional expertise

- Professional skills

Module GVPT 04: Developing teaching and educational plans oriented towards students' quality and capacity development

Module GVPT 05: Using teaching and educational methods to develop students' quality and capacity

Module GVPT 06: Assessing and evaluating students in general education institutions oriented towards developing students' quality and capacity

- Creating an educational environment

Module GVPT 07: Counseling and supporting students in teaching and educational activities

Module GVPT 08: Building a school culture in general education institutions

Module GVPT 09: Implementing democratic rights in schools in general education institutions

Module GVPT 10: Implementing and building safe schools, preventing school violence in general education institutions

- Developing relationships between schools, families, and society

Module GVPT 11: Building cooperative relationships with parents and stakeholders in teaching and educating students in general education institutions

Module GVPT 12: Coordinating between schools, families, and society to carry out teaching activities for students in general education institutions

Module GVPT 13: Coordinating between schools, families, and society to implement moral and lifestyle education for students in general education institutions

Module GVPT 14: Enhancing the capacity to use foreign languages or ethnic languages for teachers in general education institutions

Module GVPT 15: Applying IT, exploiting, and using technological equipment in teaching and educating students in general education institutions.

Under Section 4 of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions issued in conjunction with Circular 12/2019/TT-BGDDT, the duration of the Regular Retraining Program for primary school teachers is as follows:

GUIDELINES FOR PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

1. The implementation of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions includes 03 retraining programs as stipulated in Section III of this Program.

2. Retraining duration:

a) Each teacher at a general education institution must ensure the specific retraining duration as follows:

- retraining program 01: Approximately 1 week/school year (about 40 lessons/school year);

- retraining program 02: Approximately 1 week/school year (about 40 lessons/school year);

- Retraining Program 03: 1 week/school year (40 lessons/school year);

b) Based on task requirements and local education plans for each school year, educational management levels may adjust the duration of retraining program 01 and retraining program 02 suitably but cannot change the duration of Retraining Program 03 for each teacher at general education institutions (ensuring 120 lessons/year);

c) Based on Retraining Program 03, teachers at general education institutions may choose modules for retraining suitable to personal development needs of qualities and professional competencies each year, ensuring compliance with the stipulated duration.

3. The implementation of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions is carried out annually in accordance with the regular retraining regulations issued by the Minister of Education and retraining.

Thus, the duration of the Retraining Program 03 for primary school teachers in Vietnam shall be 01 week per school year (40 lessons per school year).

Based on the duration of the 15 modules, it is possible to combine 2 modules with a duration of 20 lessons in the Regular Retraining Program.

Who are the participants of the Regular retraining program for teachers in general education institutions in Vietnam?

As stated in Section 2 of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions issued in conjunction with Circular 17/2019/TT-BGDDT, the participants of the Regular retraining program for teachers in general education institutions are:

Teachers currently teaching in primary schools, lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, schools with multiple educational levels, specialized schools, boarding and semi-boarding ethnic secondary schools (hereinafter referred to as general education institutions).
