Under Subsection 5, Section A, Part 6 of the Regulations on minimum knowledge volume and competencies of graduates at intermediate and college levels for fields of electrical, electronics, and telecommunications engineering (hereinafter referred to as Regulations) issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates of college-level marine electrical engineering in Vietnam can do the following jobs:

- Install marine electrical systems;

- Operate marine electrical systems;

- Maintain, repair marine electrical systems;

- Inspect and accept marine electrical systems.

What is college-level marine electrical engineering in Vietnam?

Under Subsection 1, Section A, Part 6 of the Regulation issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the college-level marine electrical engineering is defined as follows:

College-level marine electrical engineering is a profession where practitioners operate, adjust electrical systems, maintain and repair electrical equipment and systems on ships according to technical requirements, install electrical equipment systems on ships that meet the technical standards of registration; carry out inspection and acceptance after installation and repair, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.

Marine Electrician often works on sea ships, in shipbuilding and repair yards. The working environment is often confined, noisy, with high vibration, and subject to extreme weather conditions, involving both independence and teamwork with a high level of discipline.

Workers must be physically fit, passionate about their profession, have sufficient technical knowledge and skills to perform tasks, and quickly adapt to the job to complete assigned tasks.

Minimum knowledge volume: 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).

What are the minimum requirements for knowledge of graduates of college-level marine electrical engineering in Vietnam?

Under Subsection 2, Section A, Part 6 of the Regulation issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates of college-level marine electrical engineering in Vietnam must meet the following knowledge requirements:

- Analyze the application of various electrical materials;

- Describe the structure, analyze the working principle and application of electronic components;

- Describe the structure and analyze the working principle of electrical instruments;

- Describe the structure and analyze the working principle of different types of electrical machines;

- Describe the power station and analyze the methods of power distribution on ships;

- Analyze the principles of control, and regulate electric drive systems for the following systems: steering system, cargo system, mooring winch system, pump system, ventilation system, and other electric drive systems on ships;

Analyze the layout of information signal systems on ships;

- Describe the structure and analyze the working principles of automatic monitoring systems on ships;

- Describe the structure and analyze the working principles of automatic control systems on ships;

- Explain the principles of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and fire and explosion prevention;

- Present basic knowledge of politics, culture, society, law, national defense security, and physical education as prescribed.

What are the minimum requirements for skills of graduates of college-level marine electrical engineering in Vietnam?

Under Subsection 3, Section A, Part 6 of the Regulation issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates of college-level marine electrical engineering in Vietnam must meet the following skill requirements:

- Proficiently use tools, inspection equipment, measuring instruments, and professional tools in the trade;

- Proficiently operate the marine power station system;

- Proficiently operate electrical panels on ships;

- Maintain control systems in electrical systems;

- Maintain various electrical instruments on ships;

- Repair faults in different types of transformers on ships;

- Repair single-phase AC generators on ships;

- Repair three-phase AC motors on ships;

- Repair different types of AC generators on ships;

- Repair different types of DC generators on ships;

- Install lighting and domestic electrical systems on ships;

- Install capacitor panels on ships;

- Install power electrical systems on ships;

- Install control systems on ships;

- Install maritime communication and signal systems on ships;

- Install alarm systems on ships;

- Conduct maritime ship watch duty;

- Inspect and accept marine electrical systems according to procedures, ensuring quality and safety;

- Organize and execute tasks ensuring labor safety, industrial hygiene, and fire and explosion prevention;

- Use basic information technology as prescribed; search, process, and apply information technology in professional tasks of the field;

- Use basic foreign languages, reach level 2/6 in Vietnam's Foreign Language Proficiency Framework; and apply foreign languages to the professional tasks of the field.
