Based on Subsection 5, Section A, Part 3 of the Regulations on the Regulation on the minimum knowledge volume and requirements for competencies for graduates from intermediate/college level majors in business, management, and law (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations) issued in conjunction with Circular 20/2019/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates of college-level banking and finance in Vietnam may do the following jobs:
- Transactions - payments;
- Treasury;
- Credit;
- Debt handling;
- Asset evaluation;
- Stock brokerage;
- Financial management;
- Accounting.

What is the college-level banking and finance in Vietnam?
Based on Subsection 1, Section A, Part 3 of the Regulations issued in conjunction with Circular 20/2019/TT-BLDTBXH, college-level banking and finance is described as follows:
Finance - Banking involves services related to monetary transactions and circulation through banks, credit institutions, and financial instruments issued by banks, both domestically and internationally; and finance in enterprises.
The profession of Finance - Banking includes tasks such as capital mobilization operations, credit operations (lending, discounting, guaranteeing, factoring, import financing, export financing), payment operations, commercial bank accounting, treasury operations, credit risk management, asset valuation, enterprise valuation, financial analysis, and management, stock brokerage.
Key tasks of the profession:
- The finance profession entails monitoring the capital and cash flow of a company or enterprise, making decisions about borrowing, and negotiating financial contracts. The finance manager is involved in nearly all aspects of a company;
- The Finance - Banking profession involves capital mobilization, credit operations (lending, discounting, guaranteeing, factoring, import and export financing), individual and corporate payment operations, domestic and international payment operations, financial investment operations, and other legal operations.
Monetary circulation in the economy and the use of finance within enterprises function like the blood vessels in the body, ensuring the entire economic system operates smoothly. Therefore, regardless of whether the economy grows or faces a crisis, job prospects in this field are always ample. With the knowledge and skills acquired from studying Finance - Banking major at the college level, graduates can work in the following units and agencies:
- Commercial banks, stock companies, non-bank credit institutions;
- State management agencies on finance and banking, various types of enterprises, financial institutions, investment funds, stock exchanges;
- Insurance companies, finance companies, credit funds, or as accountants in companies;- Financial departments in companies and corporations.
The Finance - Banking profession at the college level requires essential soft skills to meet job demands, such as communication with clients, product presentation, customer persuasion, foreign language skills, computing skills, time management, critical thinking, analytical skills, teamwork, etc., to meet job position requirements and work in a dynamic, competitive, and globalized environment. Additionally, regular study to improve foreign language communication, expand social knowledge, and develop meticulousness, detail orientation, clarity, professional awareness, and passion for the profession is essential.
For practicing, one must have good health, good professional ethics, sufficient professional knowledge, and professional skills suitable for the job. Additionally, continual learning to enhance foreign language communication, broaden social knowledge, and maintain careful, detailed, clear work habits, and professional consciousness and enthusiasm for the profession is necessary.
Graduates of college-level banking and finance must meet the level 5 requirements of the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework.
The minimum knowledge volume is 1,740 hours, equivalent to 80 credits.
What are the knowledge requirements for graduates of college-level banking and finance in Vietnam?
Based on Subsection 2, Section A, Part 3 of the Regulations issued in conjunction with Circular 20/2019/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates of college-level banking and finance in Vietnam must meet the following knowledge requirements:
- General knowledge:
+ Understand basic knowledge of political theory, military studies, and health training;
+ Understand knowledge of politics, economics, and society to address issues in life and approach problems in Finance - Banking.
- Foundational knowledge:
+ Understand fundamental concepts of finance, monetary theory, credit, banking, management, and accounting;
+ Understand financial mathematical concepts and formulas;
+ Present basic foreign language knowledge at level 2/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Competency Framework;
+ Present informatics knowledge for Finance - Banking, meeting basic informatics skill standards;
+ Foundational field knowledge is the basis for studying in-depth knowledge in the field.
- Specialized knowledge:
+ List and describe banking forms, and documents related to capital mobilization, payment operations, credit operations (including lending, discounting, guaranteeing, factoring, and trade finance), treasury operations, credit evaluation, debt handling, and accounting;
+ List the processes for capital mobilization, payment operations, credit operations (including lending, discounting, guaranteeing, factoring, and trade finance), treasury, credit evaluation, and debt handling;
+ Understand and practice enterprise accounting, banking accounting;
+ List risks in banking credit operations and explain the steps in the credit risk management process;
+ Understand and perform securities trading operations;
+ Present some financial indicators used to assess economic conditions, the banking, and financial markets;
+ Explain and analyze financial indicators for asset valuation, enterprise asset evaluation, and financial management.
They must understand basic knowledge of politics, culture, society, law, national defense and security, and physical education as prescribed.
