Under Article 3 of Circular 08/2024/TT-BGDDT guiding the integration of national defense and security education content in primary schools, lower secondary schools, and upper secondary schools, for lower secondary school students in general, the integration will be implemented in subjects and educational activities for each grade, according to textbooks chosen by the school, appropriate to the cognitive abilities of students in each locality, focusing on the subjects: Literature; Citizenship Education; History and Geography; Arts (Music, Fine Arts); Local Education Content; Experiential Activities, Career Orientation.

Common integration topics from 6th to 9th grade include education on the spirit of solidarity, patriotism of the Vietnamese nation throughout historical periods of national building and defense; protection of sea and island sovereignty; protection of national sovereignty, territory, and borders; citizens' rights and responsibilities towards the cause of national building and defense; introduction to historical events of resisting foreign invaders; some content on protecting personal information when participating in social networks; introduction to content on preventing social evils for students; the state's policy on beliefs and religions.

Integration topics for Grade 6: Introduction to the history and traditions of the Vietnam People's Army and the Vietnam People's Public Security; historical sites associated with the resistance wars of the nation; the clever and creative tactics of our troops and civilians in the resistance wars against foreign invaders.

Additionally, the integration duration of national defense and security education content in subjects and educational activities should be appropriate to the general education program and the education plans of primary and secondary schools; ensuring that all necessary national defense and security education content is conveyed without increasing the study duration of subjects and educational activities.

What is the specified age of 6th graders in Vietnam?

Under Article 33 of the lower secondary school, upper secondary school and multi-level school charter issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the age of secondary school students is stipulated as follows:

- Children shall start the sixth grade at the age of 11 and the tenth grade at the age of 15. For students skipping a grade or over-age students, the sixth grade and tenth grade starting ages shall be adjusted based on the age at which these students graduate from the previous education level.

- For ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, disadvantaged students and students returning to Vietnam from abroad, maximum secondary school starting age shall be 03 years older than the compulsory starting age.

- At an education level, students may not repeat a grade more than 03 times.

- Students with good physical capacity and early intelligence development may enter the sixth or tenth grade before the compulsory starting age or skip to the next grade within the same education level. Consideration shall be given on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the following procedures:

+ The student’s parent or guardian submits an application to the school.

+ The school principal establishes a survey and advisory council with the following main members: representatives of school leaders and parent committee of the school; and teachers teaching the student's class.

+ The school principal considers and makes a decision based on the result of the survey conducted by the survey and advisory council.

- Students at an appropriate age returning to Vietnam from abroad and children of foreigners working in Vietnam may enroll in local or non-local secondary schools capable of receiving them. Consideration shall be given on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the following procedures:

+ The student’s parent or guardian submits an application to the school.

+ The school principal organizes an assessment of the student’s capacity and places them in a suitable class.

Thus, except for some special cases, generally, the age for students entering Grade 6 is 11 years old.

What are the 07 prohibited acts for 6th graders in Vietnam?

According to Article 37 of the lower secondary school, upper secondary school and multi-level school charter issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the 07 prohibited acts for 6th graders in Vietnam are:

(1) Disrespect the dignity, honor or bodily integrity of teachers, officials and staff of their schools, other people and other students.

(2) Act dishonestly in learning, examinations or admission process.

(3) Buy, sell or use alcohol, tobacco, drugs, other stimulants, firecrackers or explosives.

(4) Use mobile phones and other devices in class for purposes other than learning and without the teacher's permission.

(5) Fight or disrupt public or school order or security.

(6) Use or exchange cultural products that incite violence or contain indecent materials; use toys or play games that impede their own healthy development.

97)  Students shall not commit other prohibited acts provided for by regulations of law.
