What is the age of children entering Grade 1 in Vietnam?
According to the regulations in Article 33 of the Primary School Charter issued together with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the age of primary school students is specified as follows:
Age of primary school students
1. The age for 1st graders in Vietnam is 06 years, calculated according to the year. Children with disabilities, underdeveloped physical or mental development, children in particularly disadvantaged areas, ethnic minority children, orphans without shelter, children returning from abroad, children of foreigners studying, and working in Vietnam may enter Grade 1 at an older age than specified but not exceeding 03 years. In cases where children enter Grade 1 exceeding 03 years than specified, the head of the Division of Education and Training will decide.
2. Primary school students may study at an age older than the prescribed age in cases such as repeating a grade, students in particularly disadvantaged areas, ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students with underdeveloped physical or mental faculties, orphans without shelter, children returning from abroad, and other cases as provided by law.
Thus, children aged 06 are eligible to apply for entering Grade 1.
However, children with disabilities, underdeveloped physical or mental development, children in particularly disadvantaged areas, ethnic minority children, orphans without shelter, children returning from abroad, and children of foreigners studying, and working in Vietnam may enter Grade 1 at an older age, not exceeding 03 years.
In cases where children enter Grade 1 exceeding 03 years than specified, the head of the Division of Education and Training will decide.

1. Study and train according to the educational plan and school regulations; have a self-conscious attitude towards studying and training to develop comprehensively the qualities and abilities according to the goals of the primary school education program.
2. Fully and effectively perform learning tasks; know how to self-study under the guidance of teachers; actively and proactively participate in experiential activities, apply learned knowledge to real life; train the body, maintain personal hygiene.
3. Be filial to parents and grandparents; respect and be polite to teachers and elders; unite, love, and help friends, younger children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in difficult circumstances.
4. Comply with regulations, protect school and public property; obey traffic safety rules; maintain hygiene and protect the environment.
5. Contribute to activities that build, protect, and promote the traditions of the school and local area.
Thus, besides the duty of studying and training according to the educational plan and school regulations, 1st graders in Vietnam also have the following duties:
