Currently, no legislative documents mention the concept of MOS Certification. However, MOS stands for Microsoft Office Specialist. This is an exam on office computer skills created by Microsoft, with each MOS exam corresponding to an application in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.
Thus, it can be understood that MOS certification is an international computer certification issued by Microsoft, assessing the competency in using Microsoft Office software.
Vietnam: Some information you need to know about MOS Certification
[1] The MOS exam is divided into 3 levels: Specialist, Expert, and Master.
[2] Structure of the MOS exam: all MOS exams are conducted within a maximum duration of 50 minutes with a maximum score of 1000.

Candidates and conditions for taking the exam for Information Technology Applications Certificates in Vietnam under Joint Circular 17
In Article 9 of Joint Circular 17/2016/TTLT-BGDDT-BTTTT, the candidates and conditions for taking the exam for Information Technology Applications Certificate are prescribed as follows:
- Candidates for the exam for Information Technology Applications Certificate are individuals who need to be assessed on their IT skills or need to be issued an IT application certificate as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Conditions for taking the exam:
+ Individuals with valid registration documents, including:
++ Application form according to the sample;
++ Two (02) 4cmx6cm photos in the style of an ID photo, taken no more than 06 months before the registration date; the back of the photo must clearly state the name, date, month, year of birth, and place of birth;
++ A copy of one of the following documents: ID card, citizen identification card, passport or birth certificate, accompanied by one photo-bearing document with a stamp.
+ Pay the full examination fee according to current regulations;
+ Candidates for the advanced IT application certificate must have a basic IT application certificate.

How many parts aoes the exam for Information Technology Applications Certificate in Vietnam under Joint Circular 17 have?
In Article 7 of Joint Circular 17/2016/TTLT-BGDDT-BTTTT, it is stipulated that the exam for Information Technology Applications Certificate consists of 2 parts: the multiple-choice exam and the practical exam; the exam is conducted on a computer connected to a LAN (with a local server for storing files). These two exams are mandatory and are conducted consecutively as regulated by the assessment center;
- The multiple-choice exam is generated by software from the question bank and is automatically graded;
- The practical exam is created by the Exam Committee as files; the results of the practical exam are graded by the Grading Committee and stored in files on the LAN server.
What are the responsibilities of candidates taking the exam for Information Technology Applications Certificate in Vietnam under Joint Circular 17?
According to Article 13 of Joint Circular 17/2016/TTLT-BGDDT-BTTTT, candidates taking the exam for Information Technology Applications Certificate have the following responsibilities:
- Be present at the exam location on the specified date and time. Candidates who are 10 minutes late from the start time will not be allowed to take the exam.
- Present a valid ID card or passport, party member card, driver's license, valid student card, or another photo-bearing document stamped on the photo before entering the examination room.
- Sit in the correct position according to the candidate number in the examination room; sign the attendance sheet for each exam session.
- Only bring into the examination room personal identification papers and items necessary for the exam as regulated.
- Do not bring weapons, explosives, flammable substances, alcoholic drinks, documents, communication devices, or information-containing devices that can be used to cheat during the exam into the examination room.
- During the exam, do not communicate, discuss, or copy exam papers and maintain order; when needing to ask for permission or leave the examination room, you must ask for the invigilator's permission and only speak or leave the examination room when permitted by the invigilator; in case of unusual events, follow the invigilator's instructions.
- Receive the exam paper and take the exam on a computer.
- Sign the Exam Participation Confirmation Form.
- When the time to finish the exam is announced, all candidates must stop taking the exam and follow the instructions of the invigilator.
- After the exam time ends, candidates can only leave the examination room with the invigilator's permission.
- If violating the exam regulations, depending on the severity, the candidate will be disciplined by measures ranging from a warning to suspension or annulment of the exam results.
