According to the provisions in Subsection 5, Section A, Part 7 of the Regulations on the minimum amount of knowledge and competency requirements that graduates at intermediate and college levels in tourism, hotel management, sports, and personal services must achieve (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations) issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college students majoring in hotel management can work in the following positions:

- Receptionist;

- Housekeeping;

- Restaurant;

- Sales - Marketing;

- Bar assistant;

- Kitchen assistant;

- Security;

- Reception manager;

- Housekeeping manager;

- Restaurant manager.

What is the hotel management field at the college level like?​

Based on Subsection 1, Section A, Part 7 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH regarding the college-level profession of hotel management:

Hotel management at the college level is a profession that directly manages various departments that directly and indirectly serve tourists in a hotel such as housekeeping, reception, restaurant, food processing, accounting, business and marketing, human resources, security, technical services, etc., meeting Level 5 requirements in the Vietnam national qualifications framework.

The tasks in the profession are mainly carried out in hotel departments or lodging business establishments, thus ensuring a favorable, safe, and healthy working environment. The work intensity is not high but there is significant pressure in terms of service time and the requirement to ensure diverse customer satisfaction.

To successfully perform their duties, essential working conditions such as reasonable hotel building architecture and layouts, appropriate equipment and tools for each task, management software, good communication systems, and internal regulations on service standards and management must be ensured.

To practice the profession, workers need to have good health, suitable appearance, good professional ethics, adequate specialized knowledge, and professional skills suitable for the job position. Additionally, continuous learning to improve foreign language communication skills, expanding social knowledge, developing meticulousness, detail-oriented skills, clarity, and building a professional attitude towards and love for the job is necessary.

Minimum knowledge volume: 1800 hours (equivalent to 65 credits).

What are the skill requirements for college graduates in hotel management after graduation?

According to the provisions in Subsection 3, Section A, Part 7 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college graduates in hotel management must meet the following skill requirements:

- Good communication with customers, suitable for serving customers in all positions within hotel departments such as reception, housekeeping, restaurant, or banquet, conference, and seminar departments;

- Effective customer care and handling of customer complaints;

- Proper and safe use of hotel equipment;

- Correct execution of customer service procedures in positions of the reception, housekeeping, restaurant, or conference, and seminar areas according to hotel standards;

- Correct execution of management procedures in job positions of managing the reception, housekeeping, restaurant departments according to hotel standards;

- Management of human resources, assets, tools, and finances in the reception, housekeeping, and restaurant departments according to hotel standards;

- Evaluation of employee capacity and training to ensure they meet the business requirements;

- Leading or participating in the development of plans for departments such as marketing plans, human resource plans, equipment procurement plans, organizing conferences, seminars, or events;

- Preparing reports, drafting internal documents, and commonly used contracts in hotel - restaurant establishments;

- Utilizing hotel management software in daily operations;

- Analyzing and evaluating business performance results of lodging, dining, and conference departments, identifying causes, and proposing solutions to enhance business efficiency;

- Using basic information technology per regulations; exploiting, processing, and applying information technology in the professional work of the industry;

- Basic foreign language proficiency, achieving level 2/6 in the Vietnam foreign language proficiency framework, and applying foreign languages to professional work in the industry.

What are the knowledge requirements for college graduates in hotel management after graduation?

According to the provisions in Subsection 2, Section A, Part 7 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college graduates in hotel management must meet the following knowledge requirements:

- Identify basic knowledge of politics, law, and social culture suitable to the major such as Tourism Law, Environmental Protection Law, Business Law, Economic Law, etc.;

- Explain the general understanding of the tourism industry, an overview of tourism and hotel-restaurant;

- Describe the position, role of the hotel - restaurant field in the tourism industry, and the characteristics, economic, cultural, social, and environmental impacts of hotel - restaurant activities;

- Explain the organizational structure, position, role, function, and tasks of hotel departments and the relationships between departments; propose solutions to enhance hotel service quality;

- Explain general management principles, hotel operation management, financial management, human resource management, facility management, and specialized departmental management such as reception, housekeeping, and dining;

- Describe the basic operational procedures of a hotel: reception, room service, restaurant, beverage mixing, and food processing operations;

- Describe management procedures of the reception, room, restaurant, and kitchen departments;

- List primary equipment and tools in a hotel and their uses;- Explain hotel service quality standards and evaluation methods;

- Describe the planning, implementation, supervision, inspection, and evaluation processes of departmental tasks in a hotel;

- Explain principles ensuring security and safety, justify the need to comply with hotel security regulations to identify potential risks and preventive measures;

- Explain basic knowledge on politics, culture, society, law, national defense, security, physical education as per regulations.
