Under Article 4 of the Professional Standards for Teachers in General Education Institutions, issued with Circular 20/2018/TT-BGDDT, the professional standards on teacher's qualities are as follows:

Comply with regulations and training on educators' ethics; sharing experiences, supporting colleagues in ethical practices and building educators' image.

- Criterion 1: Ethics

+ Qualified: Strictly comply with regulations on educators' ethics;

+ Good: Have a spirit of self-learning, self-training and strive to enhance educators' qualities;

+ Excellent: Be a model of educators' ethics; share experiences and support colleagues in ethical practices.

- Criterion 2: Image

+ Qualified: Have a demeanor and working manner suitable for a teacher in general education institutions;

+ Good: Have a sense of self-training to create a model educator's image, positively influence students;

+ Excellent: Be a model of educators' image, positively influence and support colleagues in building the educator's image.

What are the regular retraining modules on teacher's qualities in Vietnam?

According to Section 3 of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions, issued with Circular 17/2019/TT-BGDDT, the regular retraining modules on teacher's qualities include:

Module 1:

(1) Module title: improvement of the teacher's ethical qualities in the current context under retraining requirements according to the Teacher's Quality Standards.

(2) Module code: GVPT 01

(3) Main content of the module:

- Ethical qualities of teachers in the current context.

- Regulations on teacher's ethics.

- Self-training, self-discipline, and striving to improve the ethical qualities of teachers.

(4) Implementation time: 20 lessons (8 theoretical lessons, 12 practical lessons)

(5) Required outcomes:

- Analyze the current ethical status of teachers in the present context (inadequacies, lessons learned from teacher ethics violations, exemplary ethical teachers affecting moral education and teaching activities for students); relate to different educational levels;

- Apply regulations on teacher ethics to develop and implement self-training and self-discipline plans to improve the ethical qualities of teachers;

- Support colleagues in striving to improve the ethical qualities of teachers.

Module 2:

(1) Module title: Developing the image of teachers in general education institutions in the current context under the retraining requirements according to the Teacher's Professional Standards.

(2) Module code: GVPT 02

(3) Main content of the module:

- The profession of teachers in general education institutions in the current context.

- The requirements for the image of teachers in general education institutions in the current context; skills in handling pedagogical situations.

- Development and practice of good manners, forming of the image of teachers.

(4) Implementation duration: 20 lessons (8 theory lessons, 12 practice lessons)

(5) Required outcomes:

- Analyze the current situation and the style requirements for teachers in general education institutions in general, as well as for teachers of each educational level in the current context.

- Apply to practice, handle pedagogical behavior situations in general education institutions, and propose solutions to practice good manners and the image of teachers suitable for each educational level, region, and area (Skills in self-emotion restraint, conflict resolution skills, etc.).

- Support colleagues in the practice of good manners and forming of the image of teachers.

Are primary school teachers in Vietnam required to complete modules on teacher's qualities?

According to Section 2 of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions issued together with Circular 17/2019/TT-BGDDT, the regulations on participants of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions are as follows:

Participants

The regular retraining program for teachers in general education institutions is applicable to teachers currently teaching in primary schools, lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, schools with multiple educational levels, gifted schools, boarding and semi-boarding ethnic secondary schools (hereinafter referred to as general education institutions).

According to Section 3 of the Regular Retraining Program for teachers at general education institutions, issued with Circular 17/2019/TT-BGDDT:

Content of the retraining program

The regular retraining program for teachers in general education institutions includes retraining according to job position requirements; mandatory annual retraining in professional knowledge and skills, including:

1. Update retraining programs in professional knowledge and skills to meet the annual school-year task requirements for all educational levels of general education (called retraining program 01): The Ministry of Education and retraining specifies the annual retraining content on guidelines, policies for the development of general education, general education programs, subjects, and educational activities within the general education program.

3. The retraining program for professional competence development according to job position requirements (called retraining program 03): teachers in general education institutions can freely choose retraining modules to develop professional qualities and competence to meet job position requirements. The number of selected modules should ensure compliance with the retraining duration stipulated in Clause 2, Section IV of this program. The retraining modules:

The modules on teacher's qualities are not mandatory; primary school teachers may select retraining modules, including those on teacher's qualities, to develop professional qualities and competence to meet job position requirements.
