How many stages are there in the content of music education in Vietnam?
According to the General Education Program for Music issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the content of music education is divided into two stages: the basic education stage and the career-oriented education stage. To be specific:
- Basic education stage
Music is a compulsory education content from grades 1 to 9, including basic knowledge and skills in singing, musical instruments, music listening, music reading, music theory, and music appreciation. Music education content helps students experience, explore, and express themselves through musical activities aiming to develop aesthetic capacity, recognize the diversity of the music world, and the relationship between music and culture, history, and other forms of art; at the same time, foster awareness to protect and disseminate traditional music values.
- Career-oriented education stage
Music is an elective subject according to the students' aspirations and career orientation. The course content includes extended and advanced knowledge and skills in singing, musical instruments, music listening, music reading, music theory, and music appreciation. Students with interests, abilities, or career orientations related to music can choose to study additional topics. Music education content helps students continue to develop practical skills, expand their understanding of music in relation to cultural, historical, and social elements, apply knowledge to life, meet personal interests, and access careers related to music.
What are the regulations on the teaching equipment for Music in the general education program 2018?
Under sub-section 3, section 8 of the general education program for Music issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the teaching equipment includes:
(1) Equipment for teachers
- Musical instruments: electronic keyboard or digital piano;
- Musical references: pictures of musical instruments, music authors, artists, artisans; illustrations for music stories; music performance videos, etc.
(2) Equipment for students' practice

In areas with favorable conditions, a separate room for the Music subject should be arranged, isolated from other classrooms or located on the top floor for soundproofing.
The Music classroom should have movable and easily storable furniture to create space for students' movement and participation in music activities or performances; it should have storage for teaching equipment, a board, audio-visual equipment (computer, projector, screen,...), fire safety equipment; and classroom regulations.
