- Applying the regulations and measures (focusing on effectively applying classroom management measures, positive discipline education, risk prevention education, and protection for students in general education institutions;...) to build a safe school and prevent school violence;
- Supporting colleagues in building a safe school and preventing school violence in general education institutions.
What are the school violence prevention measures taken by education and training institutions in Vietnam?
Under Section 2 of Directive 993/CT-BGDDT in 2019 on the promotion of taking school violence prevention measures in education and training institutions issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the promotion of taking school violence prevention measures in education and training institutions is specified as follows:
- The head of the education and training institution is directly and comprehensively responsible for the security and safety within the institution; homeroom teachers, subject teachers, Youth Union officers, Team officers, staff, and students in the education and training institutions are responsible for implementing regulations on ensuring school safety and preventing school violence.
- Building a democratic, safe, healthy, and friendly school; developing and implementing the Code of Conduct in education and training institutions as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Developing clubs suited to the interests, conditions, and age of the students.
Enhancing experiential activities, group activities, and social activities to develop students' capabilities and qualities.
- Developing and implementing a plan to prevent school violence; clearly assigning the responsibilities of organizations and individuals in the school for effective implementation of the plan; selecting, training, and appointing experienced, competent, and responsible teachers to take up the role of homeroom teachers to frequently monitor and manage the educational status of students;
Meanwhile, paying attention to marginalized and vulnerable students to have suitable educational, assistance, and protection measures; promptly preventing, detecting, stopping, and handling or recommending competent authorities to handle school violence cases publicly and seriously according to the law.
- Establishing communication channels on school violence in the education and training institution (suggestion boxes, hotlines, surveillance cameras,...) to promptly receive and handle incidents of school violence.
Training to enhance the capabilities and responsibilities of psychological counselors to frequently understand students' psychology, and promptly detect and resolve conflicts and disputes in the school.
- Increasing education on the law and the prevention of school violence in the school's programs and educational activities.
Developing themes on the education of life values, life skills, self-protection skills, prevention of abuse, and school violence incorporated into educational activities, Youth Union, and Team activities.
Organizing seminars, and experience-sharing sessions on preventing school violence and positive discipline education for management staff, teachers, and staff; actively highlighting good examples and emphasizing the exemplary role of teachers so that every member of the school becomes a friendly, persuasive educator.
- Annually signing coordination commitments between the student's families and the education and training institution on managing and educating students.
Frequently conducting two-way communication between the education and training institution and students’ parents about the school's activities, students' learning and training status, unusual signs, and agreeing on educative measures; supporting and providing parents with knowledge and skills in accompanying and educating their children to improve.
- Advising educational management levels and local authorities to direct relevant agencies and sectors to cooperate with the school in ensuring school security and safety, and preventing school violence; developing cooperation regulations with the police, youth unions, women's unions, and local child protection networks in education, care, and protection of children.
- Coordinating with the police and relevant forces to promptly investigate and verify school violence cases and law violations occurring both inside and outside the school; strictly disciplining students who perpetrate school violence according to regulations.
