Vietnam: How many weeks are there in a semester for the 2024-2025 school year? Is the duration of semester 1 the same as semester 2?
Currently, when students of various levels enroll for the new school year, many parents wonder, "How many weeks are there in a semester?", "Is the duration of semester 1 the same as semester 2?"
Based on Article 2 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDĐT 2024 the regulations are as follows:
Principles for developing the school year schedule for local authorities
1. The school year schedule for local authorities must ensure a total of 35 weeks of actual teaching (semester I has 18 weeks, semester II has 17 weeks).
2. The school year schedule must be suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.
3. Holidays and Tet are implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.
4. Teachers' annual leave is implemented during the summer vacation period or can be arranged interspersed at other times of the year to suit specific characteristics and the school year schedule of the locality.
5. The school year schedule must ensure uniformity for all educational levels within a local community, especially in multi-level schools.
In response to the questions "How many weeks are in a semester?" and "Is the duration of semester 1 the same as semester 2?", it can be seen that for the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that semester 1 has 18 weeks and semester 2 has 17 weeks.
The duration of the 2 semesters is not the same, and the total number of actual teaching weeks in the 2024-2025 school year ensures a total of 35 weeks.
