Do 6th Graders whose training results are assessed as Unqualified for the entire school year in Vietnam have to undergo training during the summer break?

Do 6th Graders whose training results are assessed as Unqualified for the entire school year in Vietnam have to undergo training during the summer break?

Under Clause 1, Article 13 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT:

Training during summer break

1. A student with Unqualified training results for the whole school year must undergo training during summer break.

2. Forms of training during summer break shall be decided by principals.

3. Based on forms of training during summer break, homeroom teachers shall assign summer training tasks to students and inform students’ parents. At the end of the summer, if training tasks are considered completed by homeroom teachers (reports on training progress and results must be produced and bear signatures of students' parents), homeroom teachers shall request principals to conduct re-assessment of training results of the entire school year of students. Re-assessment results shall be used in place of training results of the entire school year which are used for considering grade advancement under Article 12 hereof.

Thus, according to the above regulations, 6th Graders whose training results are assessed as Unqualified for the entire school year in Vietnam must undergo training during the summer break. Based on the form of training during the summer break, the homeroom teacher assigns the training tasks to the students and informs their parents.

Age of primary school students

1. The age of students entering the first grade is 6 years, calculated based on the year. Children who are disabled, have physical or intellectual development delays, come from extremely disadvantaged areas, are ethnic minorities, orphans without any support, or have returned from abroad can enter the first grade at an age older than the prescribed age but not more than 3 years older. Cases where children entering the first grade exceed the prescribed age by more than 3 years will be decided by the head of the Division of Education and Training.

2. Primary school students of an older age can occur in the case of retaining a grade, coming from extremely disadvantaged areas, being ethnic minorities, disabled, having physical or intellectual development delays, orphans without any support, returning from abroad, and other cases as per legal regulations.

The age of students entering the sixth grade is generally 11. Students entering the sixth grade who are ethnic minorities, disabled, have special difficult circumstances or have returned from abroad can enroll at an age up to 3 years older than the prescribed age.

For students who have skipped grades in previous levels or entered the level at an older age, the age for entering the sixth grade is adjusted based on the age at which they graduated from the previous level.

At the previous level, children can enter the first grade at an age older than the prescribed age but not more than 3 years older. Cases where children entering the first grade exceed the prescribed age by more than 3 years will be decided by the head of the Division of Education and Training.

Thus, the maximum age for students entering the sixth grade is typically 14 years, except for some cases decided by the head of the Division of Education and Training.
