Literature is a subject in the field of language and literature education, learned from grade 1 to grade 12. At the elementary level, it is named Vietnamese; at the middle and high school levels, it is called Literature.

Literature is a subject with both instrumental and aesthetic-humanitarian attributes; it provides students with means of communication and forms the foundation for learning other subjects and participating in school activities; it is also an important tool for imparting values of national culture, literature, and language; fostering healthy emotions, humane sentiments, and altruistic lifestyle in students.

Through verbal texts and vivid artistic images in literary works, by reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities, the subject of Literature plays a significant role in helping students build and develop noble qualities and core competencies to live and work effectively and continuously learn throughout life.

The content of Literature is comprehensive, encompassing cultural knowledge, ethics, philosophy, etc. that are related to many other subjects and educational activities such as History, Geography, Arts, Civics, Foreign Languages, Natural and Social Sciences, Experiential Activities, Vocational Orientation, etc. The subject is also closely related to real-life; helping students stay engaged with daily life and acquire problem-solving skills in practical situations.
