Are university students entitled to a day off for the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam?

Currently, there are no specific regulations regarding students being given a break on the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Additionally, according to Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, regulations on holidays are as follows:

Holidays and Tet

1. Employees are entitled to take leave with full pay on the following holidays and Tet days:

a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 1st, Gregorian calendar);

b) Lunar New Year: 05 days;

c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30th, Gregorian calendar);

d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 1st, Gregorian calendar);

dd) National Independence Day: 02 days (September 2nd, Gregorian calendar and 01 adjacent day before or after);

e) Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month).

2. Foreign employees working in Vietnam, besides the holidays mentioned in clause 1 of this Article, are also entitled to one traditional holiday of their country and one national day of their country.

3. Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam decides the specific holiday dates mentioned in points b and dd clause 1 of this Article.

Employees are entitled to take leave with full pay on the following holidays and Tet days:

- New Year's Day: 01 day (January 1st, Gregorian calendar);

- Lunar New Year: 05 days;

- Victory Day: 01 day (April 30th, Gregorian calendar);

- International Labor Day: 01 day (May 1st, Gregorian calendar);

- National Independence Day: 02 days (September 2nd, Gregorian calendar, and 01 adjacent day before or after);

- Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month).

Therefore, the Mid-Autumn Festival is not one of the holidays for employees to take a break.

Since students usually get breaks according to their professors' schedules, and according to the above-mentioned regulations, professors do not get a break on the Mid-Autumn Festival 2024, students as well do not get a break on that day. If the annual Mid-Autumn Festival falls on a weekend, students will have a break. However, if necessary, students can apply for leave on this day.

What is the regulated study time for university students in Vietnam?

Based on Article 2 of the Regulations on Higher Education Training issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, the following contents are regulated:

- The training program is constructed based on credit units, structured from subjects or modules (hereinafter referred to as modules), in which there must be compulsory modules and meet the current training program standard of the Ministry of Education and Training.

In the case of double-major or main-major – minor-major training, the training programs must clearly delineate the shared and individual study volumes according to each major.

- Training program content and output standards apply uniformly across different training modes, methods of organization and target groups of learners.

For those who have graduated from other levels or majors, the actual study volume is determined based on recognition, or conversion of accumulated credits and exemption from modules in the previous training program.

- The training program must be publicized to learners before enrollment and at the beginning of the course; changes and adjustments related to the training program are implemented according to current regulations and announced before being applied, not causing disadvantageous effects on students.

- For each training mode, the training program should provide a standard full-course study plan to guide students.

+ The time according to the standard full-course study plan for formal training mode must comply with the time regulations in the National Education System Framework, ensuring the majority of students complete the training program;

+ The time according to the standard full-course study plan for part-time training mode must be a minimum of 20% longer than that of the formal training mode for the same training program.

- The maximum time for students to complete the course is regulated in the institution's regulations but shall not exceed 02 times the standard full-course study plan time for each training mode.

For bridging students who have been exempted from accumulated credits, the maximum time for students to complete the course is determined based on the standard full-course study plan time reduced corresponding to the exempted volume.

Thus, the maximum time for students to complete the course is regulated in the institution's regulations but shall not exceed 02 times the standard full-course study plan time for each training mode.
