What are the eligibility requirements for 5th-grade students to achieve the "Excellent Student" title in Vietnam?
Under the provisions of Clause 1, Article 2, Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT which defines the evaluation of primary school students as follows:
Term interpretation
1. “assessment of primary school students” refers to the process of collecting and processing information via observation, monitor, discussion, examination and commentary on studying and training progress of students; consulting, guiding and motivating students; interpreting quantitative or qualitative information on studying, training results, formation and development of traits and capacities of primary school students.
The eligibility requirements for 5th-grade students to achieve the "Excellent Student" title in Vietnam are specified in the provisions at point a clause 2 Article 9 Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT as follows:

2. At the end of a school year, based on consolidated assessment results of each subjects, academic activities and primary traits, capacities, class mentors shall:
a) Assess academic results of students by 4 levels:
- Excellent completion: Students who achieve excellent scores in assessment results of subjects, academic activities; good in traits and capacities; at least 9 score in periodic final exams of subjects;
- Good completion: Students who fail to achieve excellent completion but achieve good scores in assessment results of subjects, academic activities; good in traits and capacities; at least 7 score in periodic final exams of subjects;
- Completion: Students who fail to achieve excellent and good completion but achieve good or completion scores in assessment results of subjects, academic activities; good or satisfied in traits and capacities; at least 5 score in periodic final exams of subjects;
- No completion: Other students.
Under the above regulation, the eligibility requirements for 5th-grade students to achieve the "Excellent Student" title in Vietnam are as follows:
- achieve excellent scores in assessment results of subjects, academic activities;
- be good in traits and capacities;
- achieve at least 9 score in periodic final exams of subjects
What is the age of students entering 5th Grade in Vietnam?
Under Article 33 of the Charter of Primary Schools issued with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT which stipulates the age of primary school students in Vietnam:
Age of Primary School Students
1. The age for entering first grade is 06 years old, calculated by year. Children with disabilities, those with physical or intellectual developmental delays, children from extremely disadvantaged areas, ethnic minority children, orphaned children without support, children returning from abroad, and children of expatriates studying or working in Vietnam may enter first grade at an age higher than stipulated but no more than 03 years older. Cases where the child enters first grade beyond 03 years of the stipulated age will be decided by the head of the Department of Education and Training.
2. Primary school students may be older than the stipulated age in cases of retained students, students from extremely disadvantaged areas, ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students with physical or intellectual developmental delays, orphaned children without support, students returning from abroad, and other cases provided by law.
Simultaneously, according to the regulations in Clause 1 Article 28 of the Education Law 2019:
Educational levels and entry ages
1. Educational levels and age groups of general education are regulated as follows:
a) Primary education lasts for 05 school years, from the first to the fifth grade. The entry age for the first grade is 06;
b) Lower secondary education lasts for 04 school years, from the sixth to the ninth grade. Students must complete the primary educational programme before entering the sixth grade. The entry age for the sixth grade is 11;
c) Upper secondary education lasts for 03 school years, from the tenth to the twelfth grade. Students must complete the lower secondary educational programme before entering the tenth grade. The entry age for the tenth grade is 15;

Under normal circumstances, the age of students entering the first grade is 06. Therefore, unless they are studying at an older age or repeating a grade, typically, the age of students entering 5th Grade in Vietnam is 10.
