SECTION II. SCRIPT (7.0 points)

Exercise 1. (1.0 point) Calculate and simplify the following expressions:

Exercise 2. (1.5 points) Factorize the polynomial:

Exercise 3. (1.0 point) The column chart shows the sweet potato yield in Phu Tho over the years 2015; 2018; 2019; 2020 (unit: thousand tons):

(Source: Statistical Yearbook 2021)

a) What type of chart is the above chart? To obtain the data presented in the above chart, do we use direct or indirect collection methods?

b) Did the sweet potato yield in Phu Tho in 2019 increase or decrease by how much percent compared to 2015 (round the result to the nearest tenth)? What can you comment on the sweet potato yield in Phu Tho over the years 2015; 2018; 2019; 2020?

Exercise 4. (1.0 point) With the data recorded in the following figure. Calculate the distance CD from the ship to the observation station located at point C

Exercise 5. (2.0 points) Given an acute triangle ΔABC with AB < AC. Let N be the midpoint of AC. Take point D on ray BN so that BN = ND.

a) Prove that N is the midpoint of PQ.

b) What additional condition is needed for triangle ABC for quadrilateral ABCD to be a square?

ANSWERS

SECTION I. MULTIPLE CHOICE (3.0 points)

SECTION II. SCRIPT (7.0 points)

Exercise 3. (1.0 point):

a) The given chart is a column chart.

To obtain the data presented in the above chart, we use indirect collection by accessing the website of the Statistical Yearbook 2021.

b) The sweet potato yield in Phu Tho in 2019 is less than in 2015 (since 10.2 < 14.5).

Thus, the sweet potato yield in Phu Tho in 2019 decreased compared to 2015.

The percentage rate of sweet potato yield in Phu Tho in 2019 compared to 2015 is:

Therefore, in 2019, the sweet potato yield in Phu Tho increased by approximately 100% - 70.3% = 29.7% compared to 2015.

Comment: Based on the data shown on the chart, the sweet potato yield in Phu Tho has decreased over the years 2015; 2018; 2019; 2020.

What are the educational objectives of 8th-grade Mathematics in Vietnam?

Under Section 4 of the General Education Program for Mathematics issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the educational objectives of Mathematics at the lower secondary level are as follows:

- Contribute to the formation and development of mathematical competence with the following requirements:

+ State and answer questions when reasoning, solve problems, and perform reasonable arguments when solving problems, demonstrate mathematical propositions that are not too complex;

+ Use mathematical models (mathematical formulas, algebraic equations, diagrams,...) to describe situations appearing in some practical problems that are not too complex;

+ Use mathematical language combined with common language to express mathematical content as well as show evidence, methods, and results of reasoning;

+ Present ideas and methods of using tools, and means for studying mathematics to achieve a learning task or to express mathematical reasoning and proofs.

- Have basic mathematics knowledge and skills on:

+ Number and Algebra: Number system (from natural numbers to real numbers); calculations and use of calculation tools; algebraic language and symbols; transformation of algebraic expressions, equations, systems of equations, inequations; the use of function language to describe (model) some processes and phenomena in practice.

+ Geometry and Measurement: The content of Geometry and Measurement at this level includes Visual Geometry and Plane Geometry. Visual Geometry continues to provide language, symbols, and descriptions (at the intuitive level) of objects of practice (plane figures, solids); establishe some common geometric models;

++ Calculate some geometric elements; develop spatial imagination; solve some simple real-world problems related to Geometry and Measurement.

++ Plane Geometry provides knowledge and skills (at the level of logical reasoning) about geometric relations and some common plane figures (point, line, ray, segment, angle, two parallel lines, triangle, quadrilateral, circle).

+ Statistics and Probability: Collecting, classifying, representing, analyzing, and processing statistical data; analyzing statistical data through frequency, and relative frequency; recognizing some simple statistical laws in practice; using statistics to understand basic concepts about the empirical probability of an event and the probability of an event; recognizing the meaning of probability in practice.

- Contribute to assisting students to have an initial understanding of careers related to mathematics; have career guidance based on their capabilities and interests, conditions, and circumstances; guidance on post-secondary school pathways (continuing education, vocational training, or entering labor life).

What are the duties of 8th-grade students in Vietnam?

Under Article 34 of the lower secondary school, upper secondary school and multi-level school charter issued with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the duties of 8th-grade students are as follows:

- Learn and train according to curricula and education plans of their schools.

- Respect their parents, officials, teachers and staff of their schools, and those older than them; maintain solidarity and mutual support in learning and training; conform to the charter and rules of their schools; and abide by the law.

- Take exercises and maintain personal hygiene.

- Participate in group activities of their schools and classes, Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization and Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; help their families, join physical and social activities and environmental protection activities, and maintain traffic order and safety.

- Protect school and public property; contribute to fostering, preservation and enhancement of school traditions.
