The public public holidays for students in Vietnam during the 2024-2025 academic year
Currently, there are no specific regulations regarding the public holiday schedules for students. Therefore, students will follow the school and teacher's calendar for public holiday schedules.
According to Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, the regulations for public holidays are as follows:
Public holidays
1. Employees are entitled to paid days off on the following public holidays:
a) New Year's Day: 1 day (January 1);
b) Lunar New Year: 5 days;
c) Victory Day: 1 day (April 30);
d) International Labor Day: 1 day (May 1);
e) National Day: 2 days (September 2 and 1 adjacent day either before or after);
f) Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 1 day (March 10 of the lunar calendar).
2. Foreign employees working in Vietnam are entitled to 1 traditional New Year day and 1 National Day of their country, in addition to the public holidays specified in Clause 1 of this Article.
3. Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam will decide the specific public holidays stipulated in Points b and e, Clause 1 of this Article.
According to Article 1 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024:
Issuance of the framework plan for the 2024 - 2025 school year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education applicable nationwide:
1. The earliest start date is 1 week before the opening day. For Grade 1, the earliest start date is 2 weeks before the opening day.
2. The opening ceremony is on September 5, 2024.
3. The first semester ends before January 18, 2025, and the academic year ends before May 31, 2025.
4. The consideration for completion of primary education and graduation from lower secondary education concludes before June 30, 2025.
5. The admission for the first-grade levels is completed before July 31, 2025.
6. The national high school graduation exam in 2025 is scheduled for June 26 and June 27, 2025.
7. Other national exams will be held according to the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Students across the country are expected to start school in late August or early September and end the 2024-2025 academic year before May 31, 2024.
Therefore, the public holidays for students in the 2024-2025 academic year include:
(1) New Year's Day
(2) Lunar New Year
(3) Victory Day (April 30)
(4) International Labor Day (May 1)
(5) National Day (September 2)
(6) Hung Kings Commemoration Day (March 10 of the lunar calendar)
Note: The Chairman of the People's Committee of provinces and central-affiliated cities will decide the specific school year plan for each locality.

How many weeks does the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam last?
In Article 2 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024:
Principles for constructing the academic year plan of localities
1. The academic year plan of localities must ensure 35 weeks of actual learning (18 weeks for the first semester, 17 weeks for the second semester).
2. The academic year plan must be suitable for the characteristics and actual conditions of each locality.
3. Holidays and festivals should follow the regulations of the Labor Code and the annual guiding documents.

The 2024-2025 academic year lasts 35 weeks. Of which, actual learning weeks consist of 18 weeks for the first semester and 17 weeks for the second semester.
How many school days off can secondary students in Vietnam have, excluding public holidays as prescribed by law?
Based on Clause 1, Article 12 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT:
Promotion, reevaluation during summer vacation, and non-promotion
1. Students meeting the following conditions will be promoted or recognized as completing lower secondary education or upper secondary education:
a) The year's conduct results (including reevaluated results after summer vacation training per Article 13 of this Circular) are rated as Satisfactory or better.
b) The year's academic performance (including reevaluated results in subjects per Article 14 of this Circular) are rated as Satisfactory or better.
c) Absences do not exceed 45 days in one academic year (calculated by the educational plan of 1 session/day stipulated in the General Education Program, including both excused and unexcused absences, continuous or non-continuous).

Secondary students may have a maximum of 45 days off in one academic year, excluding legally defined public holidays. If secondary students miss more than 45 days in a year, they will not be considered for promotion.
