- The story of Thanksgiving begins with the Pilgrims from Europe, who landed in America in the 17th century. After a harsh winter and initial difficulties, they received help from the indigenous people and had a bountiful harvest.

- To express gratitude to God and the indigenous people who helped them, the Pilgrims organized a large feast. From then on, the tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving was maintained and became an important holiday for Americans.

Traditional dinner: Essential dishes in the Thanksgiving dinner include roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, roasted pumpkin, and pumpkin pie.

Watching football: In the United States, an American football game on Thanksgiving Day is an indispensable tradition.

Participating in community activities: Many people participate in charity activities to help those in difficult circumstances.

- Thanksgiving is an opportunity for families to gather together and enjoy delicious traditional dishes. Some essential dishes in the Thanksgiving feast include:

+ Roasted turkey: This is the main dish and a symbol of Thanksgiving. The turkey is often stuffed with ingredients like bread, vegetables, and bacon before being roasted until crispy.

+ Boiled green beans: A simple but nutritious dish often served with turkey.

+ Mashed potatoes: Potatoes are boiled, finely mashed, and added with butter, milk, salt, and pepper to create a smooth and rich dish.

+ Stuffing: Stuffing is typically made from bread crumbs, vegetables, bacon, and spices, and is either stuffed into the turkey or baked separately.

+ Pumpkin pie: A traditional sweet pie with the characteristic flavor of pumpkin, usually served as a dessert.

+ Cranberry sauce: This sweet and sour sauce is commonly used to accompany turkey.

Are contractual teachers and students in Vietnam entitled to a day off on Thanksgiving?

Under the provisions of Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019:

Public holidays

1. Employees shall be entitled to fully paid days off on the following public holidays:

a) Gregorian Calendar New Year Holiday: 01 day (the 1st of January of the Gregorian calendar);

b) Lunar New Year Holidays: 05 days;

c) Victory Day: 01 day (the 30th of April of the Gregorian calendar);

d) International Labor Day: 01 day (the 1st of May of the Gregorian calendar);

dd) National Day: 02 days (the 2nd of September of the Gregorian calendar and the previous or next day);

e) Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (the 10th of the third month of the Lunar calendar).

2. Foreign employees in Vietnam are entitled to 01 traditional public holiday and 01 National Day of their country, in addition to the public holidays stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article.

3. The Prime Minister shall decide the specific public holidays mentioned in Point b and Point dd Clause 1 of this Article on an annual basis.

According to the above regulations, contractual teachers as employees are only entitled to fully paid days off on the following public holidays:

- Gregorian Calendar New Year Holiday

- Lunar New Year Holidays

- Victory Day

- International Labor Day

- National Day

- Hung Kings Commemoration Day

Therefore, contractual teachers and students in Vietnam are not entitled to a day off on Thanksgiving. However, if the school has any activities to celebrate, teachers and students can fully participate. If Thanksgiving coincides with a weekend, contractual teachers and students will have a day off.

What is the deadline for the recognition of completion of primary education in the 2024-2025 academic year in Vietnam?

Under Article 1 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024:

Issuance of the framework for the 2024-2025 academic year plan for preschool, general education, and continuing education nationwide:

1. The earliest school opening date is set 1 week before the official commencement ceremony. For first graders, the earliest start date is 2 weeks prior to the commencement ceremony.

2. The commencement ceremony is organized on September 05, 2024.

3. The first semester ends before January 18, 2025, and the school year is completed before May 31, 2025.

4. The recognition of completion of primary education and graduation from lower secondary education is conducted before June 30, 2025.

5. Enrollment for the first classes of all educational levels is completed before July 31, 2025.

6. The national high school exam 2025 is scheduled to take place on June 26 and June 27, 2025.

7. Other national-level exams are organized as per the Ministry of Education and Training’s guidelines and regulations.

Thus, under the above regulations, students are recognized for completion of primary education in the 2024-2025 academic year before June 30, 2025.
