What are the characteristics of the Fine Arts subject under the General Education Program 2018 in Vietnam?

According to the General Education Program for Fine Arts issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the characteristics of the Fine Arts subject are as follows:

Fine Arts is a subject in the field of art education. In the General Education Program, Fine Arts develops artistic capacity in students, an expression of aesthetic ability in the field of Fine Arts; at the same time, contributing along with other subjects and educational activities to develop students’ core qualities and general competencies, particularly the awareness to inherit and promote national cultural and artistic values in line with contemporary development.

The Fine Arts curriculum is constructed in a linear and concentric structure with two content streams: Creative Fine Arts and Applied Fine Arts; creating opportunities for students to experience and apply Fine Arts in life; helping students recognize the relationship between Fine Arts and culture, society, connecting Fine Arts with other subjects and educational activities; laying the foundation for students to orient themselves towards future careers, as well as actively participate in cultural and artistic activities and social life.

The Fine Arts education content is divided into two phases: basic education and career-oriented education.

- Basic Education Phase: Fine Arts is a mandatory educational content from grades 1 to 9. The curriculum offers opportunities for students to get acquainted and experience Fine Arts knowledge through various activities; forming and developing students’ observational and artistic appreciation abilities, awareness, and expression of the world; the ability to perceive and explore, experience cultural and aesthetic values in life and art.

- Career-Oriented Education Phase: Fine Arts is selected as an elective subject based on students’ aspirations and career orientation. The Fine Arts education content is expanded, developing the knowledge and skills in Fine Arts formed in the basic education phase, approaching groups of industries related to visual arts and with practical application; helping students develop independent thinking, critical analytical and artistic creativity; understanding the role and applications of Fine Arts in life; laying the foundation for students to explore and have a career orientation suitable to themselves based on real needs, adapting to society.

What are the objectives of the Fine Arts subject under the General Education Program 2018 in Vietnam?

According to the General Education Program for Fine Arts issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of the Fine Arts subject are as follows:

- General objectives

+ The Fine Arts curriculum helps students form and develop artistic capacity based on Fine Arts knowledge and skills; recognizing the relationship between Fine Arts and life, society, and other art forms;

+ The Fine Arts curriculum assists students in having a sense of respecting cultural and artistic heritage and the ability to apply knowledge and skills of Fine Arts in life; having a general knowledge of professions related to visual arts and the ability to orient oneself towards a career; experiencing and exploring Fine Arts through various activity forms; contributing to the formation and development of patriotic, compassionate, diligent, honest, and responsible qualities; self-study and autonomy capacities, communication and cooperation, problem-solving and creativity.

- At the primary level

+ The Fine Arts subject helps students initially form and develop artistic capacity through experiential activities; expressing emotions, imagination about the surrounding world,

+ From there, forming communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and creative capacities; initially acquainting, exploring, and appreciating the beauty of art products and works, forming self-study and autonomy capacities; contributing to the formation of patriotic, compassionate, diligent, honest, and responsible qualities.

- At the lower secondary level

The Fine Arts subject assists students in

+ Continuing to form and develop artistic abilities based on the knowledge and skills foundation built at the elementary level, through discussions, practical exercises, and experiences; developing communication and cooperation capacities, problem-solving, and creativity; having a consciousness of inheriting and promoting traditional national cultural and artistic values, approaching the aesthetic values of the era

+ Laying the groundwork for developing patriotic, compassionate, diligent, honest, and responsible qualities; gaining an understanding of the relationship between Fine Arts and life, nurturing aesthetic feelings and a love for art, developing self-study and autonomy capabilities, being conscious of career orientation post-study completion.

- At the upper secondary level

The Fine Arts subject assists students in

+ Continuing to develop artistic capabilities formed during basic education and patriotic, compassionate, diligent, honest, and responsible qualities through various activity forms; developing critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, practical skills, communication, and cooperation; the consciousness to respect and promote national traditional cultural and artistic values, approaching the art values and scientific, technological achievements of the era, developing self-study and autonomy capacities;

+ Enhancing understanding of Fine Arts knowledge in related professional fields, fostering aesthetic emotions and artistic love, and having a career orientation suitable to oneself and societal needs.
