1. Reasons related to the learning environment:

Learning environment not suitable: the student feels uncomfortable, discriminated against, or affected by negative issues in the classroom.

Inappropriate level of study: the student feels the curriculum is too easy or too challenging for their ability, leading to a lack of challenge or not being able to keep up with other classmates.

Incompatible teaching methods: the student does not like the teaching methods of the teachers or feels that the methods are ineffective for them.

Changing academic goals: the student has new academic goals that the current class cannot meet.

2. Reasons related to relationships:

Conflict with friends: there are irreconcilable conflicts with certain classmates, affecting the student's studies and mental state.

Desire to study with friends: the student wishes to study with close friends to support each other in learning.

Which grades do upper secondary school students in Vietnam attend?

Based on Article 28 of the Education Law 2019, the levels and ages of general education are as follows:

Levels and ages of general education

1. The levels and ages of general education are regulated as follows:

a) Primary education is conducted over 5 academic years, from first grade to fifth grade. The age of students entering first grade is 6 years old, calculated by year;

b) Lower secondary education is conducted over 4 academic years, from sixth grade to ninth grade. Students entering sixth grade must have completed primary education. The age of students entering sixth grade is 11 years old, calculated by year;

c) Upper secondary education is conducted over 3 academic years, from tenth grade to twelfth grade. Students entering tenth grade must have a lower secondary graduation certificate. The age of students entering tenth grade is 15 years old, calculated by year.

2. Cases where students may study beyond the prescribed age range stated in Clause 1 of this Article include:

a) Students who skip grades due to early intellectual development;

b) Students studying beyond the prescribed age due to repeating grades, those in areas with special socio-economic conditions, ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students with physical or intellectual impairments, orphans, students from poor households, students returning from abroad, and other cases as stipulated by law.

Upper secondary school students is a term commonly used to refer to students in grades 10, 11, and 12.

Thus, students will attend upper secondary school (upper secondary education) for 3 years, except in cases of repeating a grade or other situations as stipulated by law.

What are the rights of upper secondary school students in Vietnam?

The rights of upper secondary school students are specifically stipulated in Article 35 of the Regulations on lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and schools with multiple educational levels as issued in Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT as follows:

- The right to equality in access to comprehensive education, guaranteed conditions of time, facilities, hygiene, and safety to study in class and self-study at home, access to information about their study and training, and use of equipment and facilities for educational, cultural, and sports activities as stipulated.

- The right to respect and protection, the right to equal and democratic treatment, the right to lodge complaints with the school and education management authorities regarding any decisions affecting themselves; the right to transfer schools for legitimate reasons as per current regulations; the right to advance placement and over-age education as stipulated in Article 33 of the Regulations on lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and schools with multiple educational levels issued in Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT.

- The right to participate in activities to develop talents in academic subjects, sports, and arts organized by the school if conditions are met.

- The right to receive scholarships or other allowances as per policies for socially supported students, students in difficult living conditions, and students with special talents.

- The right to transfer schools if meeting the stipulated conditions; the transfer procedures are implemented according to regulations by the Minister of Education and Training.

- Other rights as stipulated by law.
