Under sub-section 1.2, Section V of the General education program in Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the distribution of literary knowledge circuits at each educational level is as follows:

- Primary Level: Basic understanding of stories and poetry, fictional and non-fictional texts; characters in literary texts, plot, time, space, vocabulary, rhyme, rhythm, imagery, character speeches, and dialogue.

- Lower secondary level: Understanding of genres (folktales, short stories, lyrical poetry, and narrative poetry; lyrical prose and narrative prose; Nôm poems, regulated verse and free verse, tragedy, and comedy); lyrical subject and lyrical character; emotional value, cognitive value of literary works; some formal elements and artistic methods of each literary genre; at the end of grade 9, an overview of literary history.

- Upper secondary level: Understanding of some less common genres, requiring higher reading skills (myths, epics, traditional operas, contemporary stories, and poems; modern and postmodern novels);

Some practical literary history, literary theory knowledge for reading and writing literary texts (story, omniscient narrator, limited narrator, narrator and perspective shift, narrative style, poetic themes, literary features; literary style; understanding of literary history and some major authors); some study topics focus on knowledge of literary periods, movements, and creative styles.

The curriculum provides directions for text types and genres taught at each grade level; specifically, at the primary level, it also specifies the length of texts.

- To meet the requirements of forming and developing qualities and competencies for students, selected text corpus must meet the following criteria:

+ Directly serve the development of qualities and competencies as per the curriculum's goals and required achievements.

+ Be suitable for the experience, cognitive abilities, and psychological characteristics of students at each grade level. Words used as text corpus for teaching language at the primary level are selected from a cultural vocabulary range, carrying positive meanings, ensuring the goals of teaching qualities, language, and aesthetics, and appropriate for students' psychology.

+ Have distinctive value in content and artistry, exemplary in text types and genres, standard and creative in language.

+ Reflect achievements in national thinking, literature, and culture; expresses patriotism, national independence consciousness, and national sovereignty awareness; embodies humanism, teaches kindness, tolerance, love for truth, goodness, beauty, nature, and international integration, aiming towards universal human values.

- The curriculum has an open orientation about text corpus. However, to ensure core educational content uniformly nationwide, aside from suggested texts for textbook authors and teachers to select, the curriculum specifies some mandatory texts and mandatory selection texts.
