What are the objectives of the 8th-grade Literature curriculum in Vietnam?
Under Section 3 of the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT/BGDDT, the objectives of the 8th-grade Literature curriculum in Vietnam are specified as follows:
[1] Help students continue to develop the good qualities established in primary school; enhance and expand development requirements with specific expressions such as: knowing to take pride in national history and literature; having dreams and aspirations, a spirit of self-study and self-respect, a sense of citizenship, and respect for the law.
[2] Continue to develop general competencies, language skills, and literary competencies formed in primary school with higher achievement requirements. Develop language skills with the requirement of distinguishing between literary texts, argumentative texts, and informational texts; understanding both explicit and implicit content of various texts; writing coherent and logical essays of narration, description, expression, argument, exposition, and practical use correctly and combining forms of expression; speaking clearly and coherently; having a confident attitude suitable for the communication context; and listening with an appropriate attitude.
[3] Develop literary competence with the requirement of distinguishing between genres such as stories, poetry, essays, scripts, and some specific sub-genres; recognizing characteristics of literary language, recognizing and analyzing the effects of artistic elements associated with each literary genre; recognizing expressive, cognitive, and aesthetic values; analyzing imagery, content, and form of literary works; and being able to create some literary-like products.
