CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SUBJECT
Civic Education (Ethics at the primary level, Civic Education at the lower secondary level, Economic and Legal Education at the upper secondary level) plays a leading role in helping students form and develop the consciousness and behavior of a citizen. Through lessons on lifestyle, ethics, law, and economics, Civic Education contributes to building the essential qualities and core competencies of citizens, especially emotions, beliefs, awareness, and behavior in accordance with ethical standards and legal regulations, equipping them with life skills and the resilience to learn, work, and be ready to fulfill civic duties in the cause of building, defending the nation, and international integration.
At the basic education stage: Ethics and Civic Education are compulsory subjects. The main content of the subject is the education of morality, life skills, law, and economics. These contents are mainly oriented towards educating values about oneself, family, homeland, and community, aiming to form in students the necessary habits and routines for learning, living, and self-regulation according to ethical standards and legal regulations.
The subject of Civic Education at the primary level is called the subject of Ethics.

What are goals of the Ethics subject in primary level in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Section 3 of the Civic Education Curriculum issued in conjunction with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the goals of the Ethics subject in primary level in Vietnam are as follows:
(1). General goals
The Civic Education program contributes to forming and developing in students the essential qualities: patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, and responsibility; the competencies of Vietnamese citizens, especially the ability to regulate behavior, develop oneself, understand and participate in socio-economic activities, meeting personal development needs and the requirements of building a rule-of-law state and a socialist-oriented market economy in the context of globalization and new industrial revolution.
(2). Goals of the primary level
- Initially forming and developing in students an understanding of ethical behavior standards and legal norms, and the necessity of adhering to these standards in relationships with oneself and others, in work, community, country, humanity, and the natural environment;
Self-respect, self-confidence; positive emotions and behaviors: loving family, homeland, country; loving and respecting people; agreeing with the good, the right, and the positive; disapproving of evil, wrong, and negative; being diligent in study and work; being honest; being responsible with one's attitudes and behaviors.
