3. Contestants and research instructors
a) Contestants must meet the following conditions:
- Be students of grades 8, 9, 10, 11, 12;
- Voluntarily participate and be selected into the competition team of the competing unit;
- Have satisfactory academic and conduct results from the first semester (if the competition is held in the second semester) or the previous school year (if the competition is held in the first semester);
- Each contestant may only participate in 01 (one) project in 01 (one) competition.

- Each project must have at least 01 (one) research instructor, who is a teacher or staff member with suitable expertise to the project and is working at the educational institution where the contestant is studying.

What are the requirements for projects sent to the national science and technology competition in Vietnam?
According to Article 4 of the Regulation on the National Science and Technology Competition for lower and upper secondary school students issued with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT, projects sent to the national science and technology competition must meet the following requirements:
- Projects sent to the national science and technology competition must ensure honesty in scientific research; no fraud, unauthorized copying, or forgery; not using or presenting someone else's research outcomes as their own.
- The research period for the sent project should not exceed 12 continuous months and must be within the time from January of the preceding year to the competition up to 30 days before the competition opening.
- Group projects cannot change members once the project is underway. The project outcomes must reflect contributions from each member.
- Projects researching pathogens, hazardous chemicals, or substances that negatively impact the environment are not permitted in the competition.
- The sent project must have approval, and evaluation from the educational institution where the student is studying, and be selected by the competing unit according to the regulations in Article 12 of the Regulation on the National Science and Technology Competition for lower and upper secondary school students issued with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT.
The competing unit for the National Science and Technology Competition is specified as each Department of Education and Training; each secondary school under ministries and agencies equivalent to ministries (hereafter referred to as ministry-affiliated schools); each parent university, university, institute, academy with a secondary school is a competing unit.
- The sent project must meet the requirements for display as stipulated by the competition's steering committee.
What are the procedures for registering, approving, and selecting projects sent to the national science and technology competition in Vietnam?
Under Article 12 of the Regulation on the National Science and Technology Competition for lower and upper secondary school students issued with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT, the procedures for registering, approving, and selecting projects sent to the national science and technology competition in Vietnam are:
(1) For educational institutions
- Educational institutions publicly announce the objectives, content, requirements, evaluation criteria for projects, and the organization format of the Competition for teachers, staff to identify, guide students in selecting topics and building research plans;
- Teachers and staff who have guided students in building research plans report to the specialty group to propose to the principal or director (hereafter referred to as the head) of the educational institution for review and approval;
- The head of the educational institution approves the research plan and research instructor as per the proposal from the specialty group, directing the specialty group to monitor and support the student's research process according to the approved research plan;
- Educational institutions evaluate students' projects, select projects to send to the competing unit for evaluation and selection as instructed by the competing unit.
(2) For the competing unit
- Evaluate students' projects according to the evaluation criteria in Appendix 2 of the Regulation on the National Science and Technology Competition for lower and upper secondary school students issued with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT, and select projects to participate in the Competition;
- Submit the competition dossiers as stipulated in Article 13 of the Regulation on the National Science and Technology Competition for lower and upper secondary school students issued with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT to the Ministry of Education and Training at least 30 days before the competition opening.
