What are the duties of primary school students in Vietnam?
Under Article 34 of the Primary School Charter issued with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the duties of primary school students in Vietnam are regulated as follows:
- Learn and train according to the school's educational plans and rules; consciously learn and train to fully develop qualities and abilities according to the goals of the elementary education program.
- Fully and effectively perform learning duties; know how to self-learn under teacher guidance; actively participate in experiential activities, apply learned knowledge to real-life; exercise, and maintain personal hygiene.
- Show filial piety to parents and grandparents; respect and be polite to teachers and elders; unite, love, and help friends, young children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in difficult circumstances.
- Abide by school rules, protect school and public property; comply with traffic safety regulations; maintain hygiene and protect the environment.
- Contribute to building, protecting, and promoting the traditions of the school and local area.
What is the age of primary school students in Vietnam?
Under Article 33 of the Primary School Charter issued with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the age of primary school students in Vietnam is as follows:
Age of Primary School Students
1. The age for students starting first grade is 06 years old and is calculated by year. Children with disabilities, underdeveloped physically or intellectually, children in particularly disadvantaged areas, children from ethnic minorities, orphans with no one to rely on, children returning from abroad, children of foreigners studying or working in Vietnam can enroll in first grade at a higher age than prescribed but not exceeding 03 years. In cases where children enroll in first grade exceeding 03 years above the age as prescribed, the decision will be made by the Head of the Department of Education and Training.
2. Primary school students may study at older ages than prescribed in the case of retaining a grade, students from particularly disadvantaged areas, ethnic minority students, disabled students, students with developmental or mental disabilities, orphaned students without support, children returning from abroad, and other cases as stipulated by law.
Thus, according to the above regulation, primary school students are aged from 6 to 10 years old (grades 1 to 5).
However, this regulation does not apply to 2nd-grade students entering the school at an older age.
