What is the schedule for returning to universities after the Lunar New Year 2025 in Vietnam?

Currently, there are no specific regulations regarding Tet holidays for students. Therefore, students will study and have holidays according to the schedule of the school and the teachers.

Under the regulations in Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, there are specific provisions regarding public holidays as follows:

Public holidays

1. Employees shall be entitled to fully paid days off on the following public holidays:

a) Gregorian Calendar New Year Holiday: 01 day (the 1st of January of the Gregorian calendar);

b) Lunar New Year Holidays: 05 days;

c) Victory Day: 01 day (the 30th of April of the Gregorian calendar);

d) International Labor Day: 01 day (the 1st of May of the Gregorian calendar);

dd) National Day: 02 days (the 2nd of September of the Gregorian calendar and the previous or next day);

e) Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (the 10th of the third month of the Lunar calendar).

2. Foreign employees in Vietnam are entitled to 01 traditional public holiday and 01 National Day of their country, in addition to the public holidays stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article.

3. The Prime Minister shall decide the specific public holidays mentioned in Point b and Point dd Clause 1 of this Article on an annual basis.

Thus, the Lunar New Year 2025 is one of the holidays during which teachers and schools have time off. During this period, students nationwide will have similar breaks, and the holiday schedule may extend for several days depending on the school's announcement.

Under Clause 1, Article 8 of Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, the requirements for teaching and learning organization are specified as follows:

- Enhance professional capacity and responsibility of lecturers in compliance with working regulations for lecturers;

- Enhance the proactive role and responsibility of students, enable and motivate students to learn; maintain school discipline and improve training quality and efficiency;

- Provide internal supervision and inspection mechanisms and systems for quality improvement based on feedback collected from students.

What are the regulations on developing training programs by universities in Vietnam?

Under Clause 1, Article 2 of the undergraduate education Regulation issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, the provisions for training programs and study durations are as follows:

Training programs and study duration

1. Training programs shall be developed using the credit system and comprise subjects or units of study (hereinafter collectively referred to as “units of study”), which must include all mandatory units of study and meet training program standards according to existing regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. Training programs of dual-degree programs and major/minor degree programs must specify the total academic load and academic load of each degree.

2. Content and expected learning outcomes of a training program shall apply to all modes of study, methods for training organization and types of students. For those holding a qualification at a different level or in another major, the actual academic load shall be determined based on the recognition or transfer of accumulated credits and exemption from taking units of study already completed in the previous training program.
