Which candidates can take the Grade 10 entrance exam in Vietnam? What are admission methods for Grade 10 in Vietnam?
Based on Article 5 of the Admission Regulations for Secondary Schools and High Schools issued along with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT, the regulations on candidates and high school admission methods are as follows:
Candidates and Admission Methods
- Candidate eligibility is for those who have graduated from secondary school under the General Education Program or Continuing Education Program and are of the age as specified in Clause 2, Article 2 of these Regulations.
- High school admission can be organized using one of the following three methods:
a) Admission based on the evaluation of the academic and conduct records over the 4 years of secondary school of the candidate. If repeated any grade, the results of the repeated grade are taken;
b) Entrance examinations;
c) A combination of entrance examinations and evaluations.
Accordingly, the candidates and admission methods for Grade 10 are as follows:
- Candidates eligible for the Grade 10 entrance exam: students who have graduated from secondary school under the General Education Program or Continuing Education Program and are of the eligible age as specified.
- Admission methods for Grade 10: Evaluation; entrance examinations; a combination of entrance examinations and evaluations.
Who is eligible for priority points in Grade 10 entrance exams in Vietnam?
Based on Clause 2, Article 7 of the Admission Regulations for Secondary Schools and High Schools issued along with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT (amended and supplemented by Clause 3, Clause 4, Article 1, Article 2 of Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT and Article 1 of Circular 18/2014/TT-BGDDT), the Department of Education and Training prescribes the additional points for each group of candidates eligible for priority points with a differential of 0.5 points on a 10-point scale between consecutive priority groups:
* Group 1:
- Children of martyrs;
- Children of wounded soldiers with a labor capacity loss of 81% or more;
- Children of sick soldiers with a labor capacity loss of 81% or more;
- Children of individuals granted the "Certificate of enjoying policies like wounded soldiers with a labor capacity loss of 81% or more";
- Children of individuals who participated in resistance activities and were exposed to toxic chemicals;
- Children of revolutionaries active before January 1, 1945;
- Children of revolutionaries active from January 1, 1945, to the August 1945 uprising.
* Group 2:
- Children of Heroes of the Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor, and Vietnamese Heroic Mothers;
- Children of wounded soldiers with a labor capacity loss of less than 81%;
- Children of sick soldiers with a labor capacity loss of less than 81%;
- Children of individuals granted the "Certificate of enjoying policies like wounded soldiers with a labor capacity loss of less than 81%";
* Group 3:
- Individuals with parents belonging to ethnic minorities;
- Ethnic minority individuals;
- Individuals studying in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions.
What documents are required for the Grade 10 entrance exam in Vietnam?
According to Article 6 of the Admission Regulations for Secondary Schools and High Schools issued along with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT, with phrases annulled by Article 2 of Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT, the documents required for Grade 10 admission are as follows:
- A copy of a valid birth certificate.
- A secondary school diploma or a temporary certificate of graduation from secondary school, or a copy of the secondary school diploma.
- The secondary school academic record.
- A certificate of priority policies issued by a competent authority (if any).
- A certificate issued by the commune-level People's Committee for learners who graduated from secondary school in previous years, confirming they are not serving a prison sentence, in non-custodial reeducation, or violating the law.
- Other documents as required by individual schools.

According to Article 8 of the Admission Regulations for Secondary Schools and High Schools issued along with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT, the Grade 10 admission council includes the following members:
- The chairperson, who is the principal or vice-principal;
- A vice-chairperson, who is a vice-principal;
- A secretary and several members.
