What are the objectives of 8th-grade Literature in Vietnam?
According to sub-section 3 of Section 3 in the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of 8th-grade Literature in Vietnam are specified as follows:
- To help students continue to develop good qualities formed in elementary school; enhance and expand the requirements for quality development with specific manifestations such as pride in national history and literature; having aspirations and dreams, self-study spirit, self-respect, civic awareness, and respect for the law.
- To continue developing general capacities, language capabilities, and literary abilities that were formed at the primary school level with higher requirements. Develop language skills with the requirement: distinguish different types of literary texts, argumentative texts, and informational texts; understand both explicit and implicit content of various texts; write coherent, logical narratives, descriptions, expressions, arguments, explanatory, and practical essays correctly following the process and combining different expression methods; speak clearly and coherently; have confidence and appropriateness in communication contexts; listen with an appropriate attitude.
Develop literary competence with the requirement: distinguish literary genres like stories, poetry, memoirs, dramatic texts, and some specific subtypes; recognize features of literary language, and analyze the effects of formal elements and artistic techniques within each literary genre; recognize expressive, cognitive, and aesthetic values; analyze imagery, content, and form of literary works; be able to create some literary-like products.
