How many credits are students in Vietnam required to complete for undergraduate graduation?

Under Clause 2, Article 7 of Circular 17/2021/TT-BGDDT stipulating the academic load of undergraduate programs:

2. Minimum academic load of a training program must comply with requirements of the Vietnamese Qualifications Framework. To be specific:

a) For undergraduate programs: 120 credits and physical education and national defense-security education load per existing regulations;

b) For level-7 specialized training programs: 150 credits and physical education and national defense-security education load per existing regulations; or 30 credits for persons holding a bachelor’s degree in the same academic discipline group;

c) For masters programs: 60 credits for persons holding a bachelor’s degree in the same academic discipline group;

d) For doctoral programs: 90 credits for persons holding a master’s degree, and 120 credits for persons holding a bachelor’s degree in the same academic discipline group.

3. Minimum academic load of dual-degree programs shall have 30 credits and major/minor degree programs shall have 15 credits more than that of corresponding single-degree programs.

What is the time limit for issuing an undergraduate diploma in Vietnam?

Under Clause 1, Article 17 of the Regulation on management of lower secondary diplomas, upper secondary diplomas, Level 4 of VQF diplomas in teacher training, Level 5 of VQF advanced diplomas in teacher training, higher education degrees and certificates of the national educational system issued with Circular 21/2019/TT-BGDDT:

Time limit for issuance of degrees and certificates

1. The competent persons prescribed in Clause 1 Article 15 of this Regulation shall grant degrees to learners within the following time limits:

a) Within 75 days from the date on which the decision on recognition of lower secondary or upper secondary graduation is issued;

b) Within 30 days from the date on which the decision on recognition of pedagogical post-secondary school, pedagogical college or university graduation is issued;

c) Within 30 days from the date on which the decision on master graduation recognition and master’s degree conferment is issued;

d) Within 30 days from the date on which the decision on doctorate recognition and conferment is issued.

2. The competent persons prescribed in Clause 2 Article 15 of this Regulation shall grant certificates to learners no later than 30 days from the date of completion of a training or refresher course to improve academic or professional qualification or the date of certification examination.
