Sample Letter 1

Letter to the 54th UPU

Dear beloved friend,

I am the Ocean, this planet's great friend. I am a vast, boundless sea, capable of embracing lands, nurturing, and sheltering millions of marine creatures. But today, I am writing this letter not to tell you of my beauty but to share a sad truth I am enduring.

For millions of years, I have provided food for humanity, helped regulate the climate, and brought joy to countless generations. But now, I am suffering from a pain I cannot heal myself. The world continues to dump plastic waste, oil, and toxins into me, unaware that they are destroying all life within me. Can you imagine a day when I am choking with waste, without the waves caressing the shore, and without fish playing in my waters?

When I see my creatures trapped in plastic or my waves unable to comfort humans due to heavy pollution, my heart aches. Did you know that over 8 million tons of plastic waste are dumped into the sea every year? Creatures like sea turtles, whales, and dolphins are dying because they ingest the plastic humans discard in me. These lifeless objects harm not only them but also the entire marine ecosystem.

How can I continue to live without your help? I sincerely hope you, my friend, will act to protect me. Start from simple but vital actions: avoid littering the ocean with waste, refrain from using single-use plastics, and do not pollute my waters with toxic substances. If you travel to the sea, please take your trash back instead of leaving it on the sand. Change your habits to protect the marine environment today.

Another way you can help me is by participating in activities to clean the sea and protect marine animals. If everyone on Earth does these things, I will become healthy again, and the creatures living in me will once again thrive in a clean environment as before.

Dear friend, I hope that when you come back to visit me, you will see my waves caressing the shore, fish dancing under the clear water, and a bright blue sky. All this will return if you and those around you join hands to protect me.

We can do it. I trust you!

Thank you sincerely for listening,

Your Ocean

Sample Letter 2

Letter to the 54th UPU

Dear cherished friend,

I am the Ocean, you may have never heard me speak, but today, I want to share my story with you. I am part of the Earth, vast, expansive, and deep. I can see the entire world from beneath the surface, and I nurture millions of life forms. But now, I feel I'm losing vitality and need your help.

You might have visited the sea, seen its waves, fish swimming, and beautiful coral reefs. You might not realize this, but every time you see beautiful beaches, you're looking at a part of me, a very important part. In recent years, however, I have become burdened and suffocated, not because of my vastness, but because I'm being eroded and polluted by the waste humans dump into me. Millions of tons of plastic waste, nylon bags, plastic bottles, and chemicals pollute my waters. These materials do not decompose and harm me as well as the marine creatures living within me.

I understand that you love the sea and want to protect me, but to do so, you need to act now. You can protect me by avoiding single-use plastics. Replace plastic bags with fabric bags, plastic bottles with glass or reusable water bottles. When you visit the beach, bring a trash bag to collect your belongings and avoid littering. Remember, every small action you take can make a significant difference to me.

Additionally, I hope you will encourage your friends and family to join in protecting me. Don't let me continue suffering these painful waves. Help me keep the marine environment clean so that the creatures within me can grow and thrive.

I believe if we all work together to protect me, I will become healthy again, and you will see white sandy beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and fish joyfully swimming under the clear water again.

Thank you for listening to my story. Please protect me, so I can continue to be the vast, immense ocean, home to millions of marine life.

Sincerely,

Your Ocean
