Pursuant to the time frame for the academic year 2024 - 2025 stipulated in Article 1 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024, the new school year 2024 - 2025 will commence nationwide on September 5, 2024.

Who Should the Director of the Department of Education and Training Report to regarding the Preparation for the New School Year in Vietnam?

According to Article 3 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024:

Responsibility Implementation

  1. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee or City under Central authority shall decide:

a) The academic year time frame for preschool education, general education, and continuing education in line with local practicalities.

b) The early school commencement and extended academic year duration shall not exceed 15 days compared to the regulation in Article 1 of this Decision to ensure the completion of educational programs in cases of natural disasters or epidemics; for special arising cases, report to the Ministry of Education and Training before implementation.

  1. The Director of the Department of Education and Training:

a) Shall decide on school closures in cases of extreme weather, natural disasters, and arrange for make-up classes; ensure teacher's rest periods during the academic year.

b) Shall report to the Ministry of Education and Training regarding:

- The preparation for the new school year and the organization of the opening ceremony for the academic year 2024 - 2025 by September 10, 2024;

- The summary of task performance, key solutions for the academic year 2024 - 2025, and the results of the emulation criteria, recommendation for awards by June 25, 2025.

Thus, by September 10, 2024, the Director of the Department of Education and Training must report on the preparation for the new school year and the organization of the opening ceremony for the academic year 2024 - 2025 to the Ministry of Education and Training.

How Many Weeks Does the First Semester of the Academic Year 2024 - 2025 Have?

Based on Article 2 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024:

Principles for Constructing the Academic Year Plan of Localities

  1. The academic year plan of localities must ensure a total of 35 learning weeks (18 weeks for the first semester, 17 weeks for the second semester).

  2. The academic year plan must align with local characteristics and practical conditions.

  3. Holidays and Tet festivals follow the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.

  4. Teachers' annual leave is taken during summer vacation periods or interspersed with other times of the year according to specific local characteristics and the academic year plan.

  5. The academic year plan should ensure consistency across educational levels in a locality, especially in general schools with multiple educational levels.

Thus, the first semester of the academic year 2024 - 2025 will consist of 18 weeks. Furthermore, the academic year plan needs to ensure alignment among different educational levels within a locality, especially in general schools with multiple educational levels.

What Are the Responsibilities for Primary School Students Returning to School in Vietnam?

According to Article 34 of the Primary School Regulation issued with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the responsibilities of primary school students include:

- Studying and training according to the educational plan and school regulations; having a sense of self-discipline to study and train for comprehensive development in accordance with the objectives of the general education program at the primary level.

- Fully and effectively performing study tasks; knowing how to self-study under the guidance of teachers; actively participating in experiential activities, applying learned knowledge to real-life situations; practicing physical health, maintaining personal hygiene.

- Filial piety towards parents and grandparents; respect and politeness to teachers and elders; unity, love, and helping friends, younger children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in difficult circumstances.

- Complying with rules, protecting school and public property; adhering to traffic safety regulations; maintaining hygiene and protecting the environment.

- Contributing to activities that build, protect, and promote the traditions of the school and local community.
