When do students in Vietnam resume classes after the National Day Holiday (September 2)?

Currently, there is no regulation regarding the schedule for students to return to school after the 2/9/2024 holiday.

However, teachers and lecturers are public employees and workers, so they will have National Day off according to regulations.

According to Announcement 5015/TB-LDTBXH in 2023 of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs as follows:

1. Officials and public employees and workers in administrative, public service units, political organizations, and socio-political organizations (hereinafter referred to as officials and public employees) are entitled to the Tet holiday in 2024 from Thursday, February 8, 2024, according to the Gregorian calendar (the 29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Cat) to the end of Wednesday, February 14, 2024, according to the Gregorian calendar (the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Dragon). This break includes 05 days of the Tet holiday and 02 compensatory days off as per Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.

2. Officials and public employees have National Day off in 2024 from Saturday, August 31, 2024, to the end of Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Gregorian calendar. This break includes 02 days of National Day, 02 regular days off.

5. For employees not subject to Clause 1 of this Announcement, the employer decides to choose the Tet holiday and National Day holiday scheme in 2024 as follows:

- For the Tet holiday: choose 01 last day of the Year of the Cat and 04 first days of the Year of the Dragon or 02 last days of the Year of the Cat and 03 first days of the Year of the Dragon or 03 last days of the Year of the Cat and 02 first days of the Year of the Dragon.

- For the National Day holiday: Monday, September 2, 2024, according to the Gregorian calendar and choose one of the two days: Sunday, September 1, 2024, or Tuesday, September 3, 2024, according to the Gregorian calendar.

- Inform the chosen Tet and National Day holiday scheme for 2024 to employees at least 30 days in advance.

- If the regular weekly day off coincides with the holiday specified in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employee shall be given compensatory leave on the next working day according to Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.

- Employers are encouraged to apply the Tet holiday schedule for employees as per the regulations for officials and public employees.

Officials and public employees will have a National Day holiday from Saturday, August 31, 2024, to the end of Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Employees are also encouraged to apply the Tet holiday schedule for employees as per the regulations for officials and public employees.

Thus, students will also follow this schedule and may have 04 consecutive days off.

The schedule for students to return to school after the 2/9/2024 holiday will fall on September 4, 2024 (for public schools, September 3, 2024, or September 7, 2024 for private schools).

Note: If the school does not follow the fixed weekend holiday on Saturday and Sunday, it will be based on the specific program and plan of the unit to arrange the appropriate holiday schedule.

Will students in Vietnam have the opening ceremony right after National Day Holiday (September 2)?

According to Article 1 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024:

Issuing the framework plan for the 2024 - 2025 school year for preschool, general education, and continuing education to be applied nationwide:

1. Schools may begin one week before the opening ceremony. For grade 1, students may begin two weeks before the opening ceremony.

2. The opening ceremony is held on September 5, 2024.

3. Semester 1 ends before January 18, 2025, and the school year ends before May 31, 2025.

Students nationwide will hold the opening ceremony on September 5, 2024, which is after the National Day holiday on September 2, 2024.
