What are the regulations on the manners of lower secondary school students?
According to Article 36 of the Charter of Secondary Schools, High Schools, and Multi-level Schools issued with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the manners of lower secondary school students must be as follows:
- Students must have appropriate, respectful, friendly and cultured manners and language that suit the moral values and lifestyle of secondary school students.
- Student’s attire must be proper, clean, tidy, appropriate for their age and convenient for learning and other activities at school. Depending on the capacity of each school, the school principal may decide whether to let students wear uniform and seek approval from the parent committee of the school.
What are the objectives of Literature curricula in Vietnam?
According to the provisions in Section 3 of the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:
1. General Objectives
+ To form and develop in students the essential traits of patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, and responsibility; to nurture the soul, shape character, and develop individuality.
The subject of Literature helps students discover themselves and the world around them, understand humanity, have a rich spiritual life, and have humane life perspectives and behaviors; foster a love for the Vietnamese language and literature; cultivate an awareness of national roots and identity, contributing to the preservation and development of Vietnamese cultural values; to cultivate a spirit of embracing international cultural quintessence and an ability to integrate globally.
+ To contribute to helping students develop general competencies: self-control and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity.
Specifically, Literature helps students develop linguistic and literary competencies: training skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening; acquiring foundational general knowledge of Vietnamese and literature, developing figurative and logical thinking, contributing to forming the basic academic background of a cultured individual; being able to create various types of common texts; being able to comprehend and evaluate literary works in particular, communication products, and aesthetic values in general in life.
2. Primary level
- Help students form and develop essential qualities with specific expressions: loving nature, family, and homeland; having a sense of roots; appreciating beauty, goodness, and having healthy emotions; being enthusiastic in learning, having a passion for labor; being honest, straightforward in study and life; having a sense of fulfilling responsibilities towards oneself, family, society, and the surrounding environment.
- Help students initially form general competencies, develop language skills in all reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills at a basic level: read accurately and fluently text; understand the content, main information of the text; relate, compare outside the text; write correctly in spelling, grammar; write several sentences, paragraphs, short essays (mainly narrative and descriptive essays); express clearly; understand the speaker's ideas.
Develop literary competence, with the requirement to distinguish poetry and stories, know how to read poetry and stories; recognize the beauty of artistic language; have imagination, and understand, and be touched by the beauty and goodness of people and the surrounding world expressed in literary texts.
3. Lower secondary level
- Help students continue to develop the fine qualities that have been formed in the primary level; enhance and expand the quality development requirements with specific expressions such as: being proud of national history and literature; having dreams and aspirations, having a spirit of self-learning and self-respect, having a sense of citizenship, respecting the law.
- Continue to develop general competencies, language skills, and literary competence that were formed in the primary level with higher attainable requirements.
Develop language skills with the requirement: distinguish types of literary texts, argumentative texts, and informational texts; understand both explicit and implicit content of text types;
Write coherent, logical, process-compliant, self-telling, descriptive, expressive, argumentative, expository, and practical essays; speak clearly and confidently in a manner appropriate to the communication context; understand with an appropriate attitude.
Develop literary competence with the requirement: distinguish genres such as stories, poems, notes, literary scripts, and some specific subgenres; recognize and analyze the effects of literary language features, and the artistic elements associated with each literary genre;
Recognize the emotional, cognitive, and aesthetic values; analyze the figurative, content, and form of literary works; can create several literary products.
4. Upper secondary level
- Help students continue to develop the qualities formed in the lower secondary level; broaden and enhance the quality development requirements with specific expressions: having courage, personality, ideals, and aspirations, knowing how to preserve and promote Vietnamese cultural values; having a spirit of integration and global citizenship awareness.
- Continue to develop competencies formed in the lower secondary level with higher attainable requirements: understand both explicit and implicit content of texts with higher difficulty levels reflected in length, content, and reading requirements;
Understand the requirement to develop critical thinking; apply knowledge about literary language features, literary trends - movements, author style, works, and internal and external text factors to form independent reading competence.
Write proficiently argumentative and comprehensive expository texts (combining expression methods and argumentative operations), process-compliant, with a clear viewpoint, ensuring logic and persuasiveness.
Speak and listen flexibly; capable of listening and evaluating the content and expression form of a presentation; participate and have viewpoints, personality, and suitable attitudes in debating.
Develop literary competence with the requirement: distinguish literary works and other types of artistic works; analyze and comment on literary language features;
Distinguish between expressed content and represented content in literature; recognize, analyze, and appreciate literary works based on literary style features; have rich imagination, know how to enjoy, receive and evaluate literature; create several literary products.
