The People's Army Newspaper, Press and Publishing Department/Central Department of Propaganda and Education, People's Army Publishing House, and BAC A BANK have launched the 16th writing contest "Những tấm gương bình dị mà cao quý" (2024-2025).
The rules of the 16th writing contest "Những tấm gương bình dị mà cao quý" (2024-2025) are as follows:
(1) PARTICIPANTS
- Vietnamese citizens and overseas Vietnamese; foreigners living and working in Vietnam.
- Authors from remote areas, border areas, islands; and those living, studying, or working abroad are encouraged to participate.
(2) THEME, CONTENT, REQUIREMENTS, AND JOURNALISTIC GENRES
1. Theme
"Simple but Noble Examples."
2. Content
To discover and honor typical individuals who are Vietnamese citizens from all backgrounds, ages, and professions, with daily simple acts that bring high value and effectiveness, creating positive transformations in each agency, unit, field of work; people who strive to overcome circumstances, who are bold in thought, action, and responsibility, prioritizing the interests of the country and community above all.
3. Requirements for submitted works
- Works must ensure accuracy and persuasiveness.
- Issues raised in the submission must involve real people and events with clear addresses.
- Submitted works must not violate the Press Law, or Intellectual Property Law, and must have no copyright disputes.
- Before and during the competition, the works must not be published in other newspapers or magazines, including on social networks; authors are responsible for copyrights.
4. Journalistic Genres
- Journalistic essays, reports, investigative reports, reflections, notes.
- Submitted works can be articles or a series of articles (up to 3 articles); each article should not exceed 1,800 words.
- The work must include accompanying press photos related to the characters, suitable to the article's theme; illustrative photos are not used.
(3) TIMELINE
1. Time for submission of entries
From December 8, 2024, to July 31, 2025 (based on the email sent time or postmark on the envelope).
2. Time for summary and award ceremony
Expected to take place in September 2025.
(4) PRIZES STRUCTURE
*A total of 35 prizes, including:
- 01 Special Prize, with a certificate, commemorative cup, and a cash prize of 50 million VND.
- 03 A Prizes, each with a certificate, commemorative cup, and a cash prize of 30 million VND/prize.
- 06 B Prizes, each with a certificate, commemorative cup, and a cash prize of 20 million VND/prize.
- 10 C Prizes, each with a certificate, commemorative cup, and a cash prize of 10 million VND/prize.
- 15 Encouragement Prizes, each with a certificate, commemorative cup, and a cash prize of 5 million VND/prize.
- Characters (in awarded works) will receive an honor certificate, commemorative cup, and a cash prize of 10 million VND/character.
(5) METHOD OF PARTICIPATION
1. Each author can submit an unlimited number of entries.
2. Methods for submission of entries
- By postal mail: Address to the People's Army Newspaper, No. 7 Phan Dinh Phung, Hanoi; clearly note on the envelope: Journalistic work participating in the 16th writing contest "Những tấm gương bình dị mà cao quý" (2024-2025).

3. Selection and publication of works
- High-quality works will be selected by the organizing committee for publication in the People's Army Newspaper (Daily People's Army Newspaper, Weekend People's Army Newspaper, Monthly Event and Witness Magazine, and Electronic People's Army Newspaper) to participate in evaluation, awarding, and selection for the book "Simple but Noble Examples," part of the book series "Study and Follow the Ideology, Morality, and Style of Ho Chi Minh."
- Only works published in the People's Army Newspaper will be judged and considered for prizes.
- Works published in the People's Army Newspaper will be paid a remuneration according to current policies.
- Author information must include full name, pen name (if any), address, occupation, and contact phone number.
- The organizing committee will not consider and award works about groups; manuscripts will not be returned to authors.

Under Section 9 of the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the outcomes required for 05 essential traits of lower secondary school students in Vietnam are as follows:
(1) Patriotism
- Actively and proactively participate in activities to protect nature.
- Have a sense of exploring family, clan, and hometown traditions; actively study and train to promote family, clan, and hometown traditions.
- Have a sense of protecting cultural heritage, actively participate in activities to preserve and enhance the value of cultural heritage.
(2) Kindness
Value everyone:
- Respect others' honor, health, and privacy.
- Disagree with evil and wrong; do not support or participate in violence; ready to defend the disadvantaged and underprivileged,...
- Actively and proactively participate in charity and community service activities.
Respect differences among people
- Respect differences in perception and personal style of others.
- Respect cultural diversity among ethnic groups in the Vietnamese community and other ethnic groups.
- Empathize and be ready to help others.
(3) Diligence
Eager to learn:
- Always strive to achieve good results in learning.
- Enjoy reading books, newspapers, and seeking information on the Internet to broaden knowledge.
- Have a sense of applying learned knowledge and skills from school, books, and other reliable sources into daily life and learning.
Hardworking:
- Participate in family labor and production work according to actual needs in line with personal ability and conditions.
- Always strive to achieve good results in labor at school, class, and community.
- Have a sense of studying well in vocational subjects; have knowledge about a common profession.
(4) Honesty
- Always consistent in words and actions.
- Seriously acknowledge personal shortcomings and take responsibility for one's words and actions.
- Respect righteousness; defend what is good and right before everyone; objective and fair in perception and actions.
- Do not infringe on public property.
- Fight against dishonest behaviors in study and life.
(5) Responsibility

- Have a habit of keeping hygiene, exercising, and taking care of health.
- Have a sense of maintaining and rationally using personal belongings.
- Have a sense of saving time; use time wisely; build and implement reasonable learning and living policies.

- Be conscious of saving in personal and family expenses.

- Care about community affairs; actively participate in collective activities and community service.

What are the duties of lower secondary school students in Vietnam?
According to Article 34 of the Charter of Lower Secondary Schools, Upper Secondary Schools, and Multiple-Level Schools issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the duties of lower secondary school students in Vietnam are as follows:
- Learn and train according to curricula and education plans of their schools.
- Respect their parents, officials, teachers and staff of their schools, and those older than them; maintain solidarity and mutual support in learning and training; conform to the charter and rules of their schools; and abide by the law.
- Take exercises and maintain personal hygiene.
- Participate in group activities of their schools and classes, Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization and Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; help their families, join physical and social activities and environmental protection activities, and maintain traffic order and safety.
- Protect school and public property; contribute to fostering, preservation and enhancement of school traditions.
