Under Article 43 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDĐT (effective from February 8, 2025), the cases eligible for extra points in the high school graduation exam are as follows:

Extra Points

Students participating in the following competitions and activities during their upper secondary education can receive extra points for high school graduation assessment:

1. Winning individual prizes in the national excellent student selection exam: Winning first, second, or third prize in the national exam or first place at the provincial level will be awarded 2.0 points; consolation prize in the national exam or second place at the provincial level will receive 1.5 points; third place at the provincial level will receive 1.0 point;

2. Winning individual and team prizes in laboratory practice exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology; performing arts; sports; national defense education competitions; scientific and technical contests; and international letter-writing competitions co-organized by the Education sector with specialized agencies at the provincial level or above.

a) For individual prizes: Winning first, second, or third prize at the national level or first place at the provincial level or Gold Medal will be awarded 2.0 points; consolation prize at the national level or fourth prize in national science and technical contests or second place at the provincial level or Silver Medal receives 1.5 points; third place at the provincial level or Bronze Medal receives 1.0 point;

b) For team prizes: extra points are only awarded for national prizes; the number of players, athletes, and performers in the team prizes is regulated specifically by the Organizing Committee of each competition; the level of extra points awarded to individuals in team prizes is implemented as for individual prizes stipulated at this point.

3. Students winning multiple different prizes in various competitions/exams will only be entitled to one extra point level corresponding to the highest prize type.

Simultaneously, according to the provisions of Article 40 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT as amended by Clause 14 Article 1 and Article 2 Circular 05/2021/TT-BGDDT regarding the current rules for extra points in high school graduation exams.

Thus, the new High School Graduation Examination Regulation, effective from February 8, 2025 has abolished the rule for extra points for continuing education students. Therefore, from 2025, continuing education students holding vocational certificates in Vietnam are ineligible for extra points in the high school graduation exam.

What are the eligibility requirements for taking the High School Graduation Exam by continuing education students in Vietnam?

Under Article 19 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT Download, the eligibility requirements for taking the High School Graduation Exam by continuing education students in Vietnam are:

1. Eligible candidates include:

- Individuals who have completed the General Education/Continuing Education program in the year of the exam;

- Individuals who have completed the General Education/Continuing Education program but have not graduated in previous years;

- Individuals who already hold a High School Diploma but retake the exam to use the results for enrollment registration;

- Individuals who already hold a Post-secondary Diploma who retake the exam to use the results for enrollment registration.

2. Eligibility requirements for taking the exam

- Eligible candidates must register and submit all required documents on time;

- Candidates under point d, clause 1 of this Article must ensure they have studied and met the requirements for sufficient high school cultural knowledge volume as stipulated by the Education Law 2019 and current guidance documents from the Ministry of Education and Training.

What is the formula for calculating the high school graduation assessment score for continuing education students in Vietnam?

Under Article 44 of the Regulations on the high school graduation exam issued together with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 8, 2025), the formula for calculating the high school graduation assessment score in Vietnam is as follows:

- The high school graduation assessment score includes:

+ Scores of the papers taken by the candidates for graduation assessment, converted to a 10-point scale to calculate the graduation score;

+ The GPA of all years at the upper secondary level (The average of all years) is calculated by the following formula:

++ GPA of grade 10, GPA of grade 11, and GPA of grade 12 is the arithmetic mean of all subjects assessed by scores for each respective year.

++ The GPA of each school year and the GPA of all school years are rounded to 2 (two) decimal places.

+ Priority points, extra points if applicable.
