What are the guidelines for practicing the collection of documents about the Republic of South Africa?
Below are guidelines for practicing the collection of documents about the Republic of South Africa:
Example 1: The First Black President of South Africa
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, and passed away on December 5, 2013. He was the first Black President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999 and the first President of South Africa elected democratically by universal suffrage.
Before becoming president, he was an anti-apartheid activist and the head of Umkhonto we Sizwe, the armed wing of the African National Congress.
He served his presidential term from 1994 to 1999, often prioritizing consultation on national reconciliation issues. Throughout his activism, he was regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of this country.
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela is a symbol of freedom and equality in the Republic of South Africa. His greatness lies in his efforts toward national reconciliation and the journey to abolish apartheid policies in the Republic of South Africa. Furthermore, he engaged in numerous activities for the people, against poverty, and inequality.
His activities have brought significant meaning to the people of the Republic of South Africa in the face of injustice and conflict.
Example 2: The Establishment of Racial Segregation Policies (Apartheid)
The apartheid racial regime emerged because, in 1948, during the general elections, a policy was enacted that categorized the population into four racial groups: Black, White, Colored, and Indian.
In 1961, when the South African Federation withdrew from the British Commonwealth and declared itself the Republic of South Africa, the struggle movement of Blacks and Colored people occurred vigorously.
After World War II, the anti-apartheid struggle of the people of the Republic of South Africa developed into a widespread movement under the leadership of the African National Congress (ANC).
With resilient and persistent resistance, supported by the international community, the struggle achieved significant victories for the African people.
The White government in South Africa had to declare the abolition of apartheid policies in 1993, granting freedom to ANC leader Nelson Mandela after 27 years of imprisonment.
In the multiracial elections in South Africa in April 1994, Nelson Mandela became president in May 1994. He was the first Black president in the country's history.
Thus, apartheid policies have collapsed in the Republic of South Africa, ending over three centuries of existence.
The end of these apartheid policies signifies freedom and independence for the Colored and Black populations.
