What are the objectives of the general education program 2018 for Art in Vietnam?

The objectives of the general education program 2018 for Art according to Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT are as follows:

(1) General Objectives

The Art curriculum helps students form and develop artistic competencies based on knowledge and artistic skills; recognize the relationship between art with life, society, and other forms of art; have the consciousness to appreciate cultural and artistic heritage and the ability to apply artistic knowledge and skills in life;

Have a broad understanding of careers related to visual arts and the ability to orientate themselves professionally; experience and explore art through various forms of activities; contribute to the formation and development of qualities such as patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, responsibility; and self-directed learning, communication, cooperation, problem-solving and creativity skills.

(2) Objectives for Primary Education

The Art subject helps students initially form and develop artistic competencies through experiential activities; express emotions, and imaginations about the surrounding world, thereby forming communication, cooperation, problem-solving and creativity skills; initially get acquainted, explore and appreciate the beauty of products, artworks, and develop self-directed learning skills; contribute to the formation of qualities such as patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, responsibility.

(3) Objectives for Lower Secondary Education

The Art subject helps students continue to form and develop artistic competencies based on the foundation of artistic knowledge and skills at the primary level through discussion, practice, and experiential activities; develop communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity skills;

Have a consciousness of inheriting and promoting traditional cultural and artistic values, approach the aesthetic value of the era, laying the foundation for the development of qualities such as patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, responsibility; have an understanding of the relationship between art and life, nurture aesthetic emotions and love for art, develop self-directed learning skills, and have a career orientation after completing the level.

(4) Objectives for Upper Secondary Education

The Art subject helps students continue to develop artistic competencies formed in the basic education stage and qualities such as patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, responsibility through various forms of activities; develop critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, practical skills, communication, and cooperation;

The consciousness of respecting and promoting traditional national culture and art, approaching art value and scientific, technological achievements of the era, developing self-directed learning skills; enhance understanding of artistic knowledge in related fields, foster aesthetic emotions and love for art, have a career orientation suitable for themselves and social needs.

What is the core educational content of the general education program 2018 for Art in Vietnam?

According to Section 5 of the general education program for Art issued along with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the Art curriculum develops two main content circuits: Fine Art Creation and Applied Art, with basic knowledge grounded on elements and principles of formative art.

At the primary level, the educational content includes Art Theory and History, Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, and Handicraft; where the content of Art Theory and History is limited to familiarizing, discovering authors, products, artworks, cultural and artistic heritage, and is introduced and integrated into practical, art discussion activities.

At the lower secondary level, the educational content includes Art Theory and History, Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design; where the content of Art Theory and History is limited to exploring authors, products, artworks, cultural and artistic heritage, and is introduced and integrated into practical, art discussion activities.

At the upper secondary level, students from grades 10, 11, 12 can choose 04 out of 10 contents including Art Theory and History, Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Stage and Film Art Design, Multimedia Art Design, Architecture; where Art Theory and History content is both implemented independently and ensured to be integrated into practical, art discussion activities.
